How to get help.... without telling people?!

Question: i've been feeling depressed for 1 and a half years, its been slowly getting worse, I get regular suicidal feelings/ideas ("what if i throw myself off that bridge or i could take a lot of pills" etc) the worst bits are constant anxiety, being down about being down and such a lack of motivation and self confidence that i find it hard to get up in the mornings let alone do any coursework or homework (that makes me get worse anxiety because i'm screwing my life up) i'm only fourteen but i've done my homework on this and decided i need help ASAP... but i've only ever told people anonymously on the internet and would like help with getting help

it will get worse.....unless you go to your doctor. it will be in complete condidence, they will not tell you parents or anything, even if they prescribe medication they wont say anything to anyone,

make the appointment and when you get there just tell your doc exactly how you feel, its hard i know, i have struggled with depression for over 15 years, im 27 now and only now i feel confident to speak up but unless you speak up how will you get help?

you have spent long enough hoping it will get better and it hasn't.

Do you have a school counsellour or nurse? talking definatley helps even if you cant talk to your family. talking is a massive relief for some sufferers, maybe your doc will prescribe talking therapy.

Big hugs hope you feel a bit better soon and get to the docs!
feel free to email me if you want.

OMG! I'm also 14 and I have the same problem! I've tried to 'snap out of it' but I can't and there's so much medication in my bathroom and have to really strain my self control. I'm planning to see the school counselor but I'm not sure. I eventually told a friend of mine and that helped me a bit.

way to go.....DO IT, DONT WHINE!

(p.s : YOU NEED SOME SERIOUS HELP, GO GET IT)

the first step to help is knowing somethings wrong, you got that down, now you need some one on one help, you would be surprised on how much knowledge the guidance counselors have at your school, stop by and have a chat

It is so sad that teens go through this.. im 28 but went through the same thing when i was 14..
Now, if i ever feel down, i just think.. I'M NOT A FAILURE IF I DON'T SUCCEED.. I'M A SUCCESS BECAUSE I TRIED.
Go to your local GP.. he/she will be able refer you to someone who can help. NO-ONE WILL HEAR YOU IF YOU DON'T SCREAM.. so talk to someone

Go to your doctor. Your parents cannot view your files at the doctor, so need not know if you dont feel ready to talk to them yet.

Your doc can prescribe medication, or there are other ways like counselling and therapy.

Talking about it to a professional can really help, please dont suffer along with this, I had awful depression when I was a teen, I was suicidal, but I got the help I needed. I know at the moment you feel like nothing can be done, but there is always an answer, always a solution to making you feel better.

First step is seeing your gp, he or she can then go through the options with you.

You are not alone in this, people will want to help, and if you can talk to your parents, really lay it on the line and be honest with them, I am sure they will be glad to help. I remember what it was like being a teen, if my daughter ever comes to me with the feelings you are having, I will be there for her. Dont think they wont understand, they will - they were teens once and will surely remember all the pressures that are surrounding you now.

God bless,

xx

So, you've done research about depression on the internet, talked anonymously with strangers, diagnosed yourself and now decided that you need help. I remember me at fourteen and I didn't know my **** from a hole in the ground. Granted, I didn't have access to worlds of information from my own abode. (including where to get help)

So, I wish you well and hope you "keep doing your homework" and find help for your problem. It's out there.

You WILL have to tell someone....how else will they know?

First off, pat yourself on the back for figuring this out! Good for you to come to the conclusion that you need help asap. Clinical depression is a serious, life-threatening illness that requires proper diagnosis, treatment, and support. The internet is useful, but I would suggest talking about it with someone you trust: your parents, a best friend, a relative, teacher, school counsellor, doctor, etc.. You're going to need help, so you have to tell someone. My suggestion would be to schedule an appointment with your regular doctor. He/she can refer you to a therapist (for talk) and psychiatrist (for meds), should you decide to go those routes. Meds and talk therapy in combination are by far the most successful combination treatment, which I highly recommend, but you can decide for yourself. General MD's are not nearly as well suited to handle this as the therapist/psychiatrist, but it is the place to start. Contact your local chapter of Mental Health Advocates - they know this stuff cold. However you decide to proceed on this, you will not be able to go it alone, especially in your present condition. Keeping it close to the vest is prudent, but don't let that stop you from getting help. It can be a rocky road, but depression is very treatable, and I hope you get your old life/self back. Good luck!

go to your gp i got suicidal plus cutting see counseller u need to do something talk to close friend or ring childline they may help give it a go and get back to please
