Should I not go on Wellbutrin if I don't want to give up drinking?!

Question: I'm in college, and this would be very very difficult and pretty much render me to staying in on weekend nights. I'm on Lexapro, and the idea is to add in Wellbutrin in two weeks. I've drank on Lexapro lots of times with no problems, but Wellbutrin scares me more with the chance of seizures. What should I do? If I tell my doctor my concerns, I'm afraid I'll end up labled an alcoholic and end up in rehab, because I cannot see myself giving up alcohol.

Check out this site. It has people talking about side effects and the effect of drinking alcohol when on wellbutrin. Most people said they didn' want to drink while on it.

There is only a .4% chance of seizures. It shouldn't be a problem, but tell your doc. If you deny going on it your doc will ask why anyway and then you will have to tell.

Be honest with your doctor. He will not label you as an alkie if you want to drink socially. If you are taking these medications for depression you might want to consider laying off the booze anyway as alcohol is a depressant. The majority of suicide happen under the influence of alcohol.

well, you don't want to give up drinking...generally it means you are an alcoholic. no prescription medicine is meant to be taken while drinking. drinking makes someone who suffers from depression worse...just like weed does. you don't have to stay in on the weekend....why don't you pick a hobby? just cause you didn't feel side effects when you are drinking...obviously, long term drinking RUINS YOUR LIVER. go get some help.

hWellbutrin combined with alcohol can be very dangerous. Besides, Wellbutrin is a antidepressant, and if you are having trouble with depression, alcohol can only make it worse, as it's a "downer"(depressant) that nobody with depression should fool around with. just because you are in college and like to pary doesn't make you an alcoholic, but if the booze comes before your mental health, I think you need to ask yourself some hard questions. Like do I want relief from depression or do I want to be able to party. Drink something non-alcoholic, nobody else will care, it's just because of your medication. I sincerely hope that you feel like you can have a good time without having to drink.

if you can't see giving up alcohol then you are an alcoholic. it is that simple. why risk your life because you are afraid to talk to someone you are supposed to trust.

There is a bad sign if you can't actually see yourself giving up alcohol. You can still go out to bars and clubs without drinking.... I am in college so I know this lol. Anyways, combining alcohol and drugs effect different people in different ways on different days. I was able to have one or 2 drinks on wellbutrin but after that it just made me drowsy.

Seriously though, if you can't see yourself giving up alcohol, that in itself is a sign of something larger. If you aren't confident enough to say that you aren't drinking because of a medication/you don't feel like it/you're against it/ etc then you should really examine WHY you can't say no to the alcohol.
