How do you lucid dream?!

Question: will waking up in the night and then going to sleep quickly do it?

Please see the site listed below for specific techniques to help induce lucid dreaming. Personally, I've only become conscious in my dreams spontaneously and so haven't tried to will the effect.

Having experienced the dreams themselves though, I can speak a little about what I've learned to do to sustain them once I enter the lucid dreaming state, if you are interested.

IMO, the main thing on becoming conscious in a dream is to stay calm. I know my tendency at first was to excitedly act as if I could do anything I wanted without consequences. While things are obviously possible in a dream that are impossible in real life, your own personality and beliefs still hold sway. If you go against them the resulting conflict tends to cause the dream world to become less "real" and eventually fade out into wakefulness.

It's hypothesized that the dreaming parts of the brain only function after the conscious parts deactivate during sleep, and for them both to work together as in lucid dreaming, a delicate balance needs to be maintained to avoid reactivating the conscious circuits too much.

IMO, it's best at first to adopt a quiet appreciation for the dream world around you. Try to implicitly accept and reinforce the reality of what you see even as you marvel at the realism and detail of the dream imagery. By the way, visually anyway, the Matrix did not exaggerate in its portrayal of the power of the mind to create a convincing version of reality.

As you settle in and wish to try something fantastic, such as flying, it's important to realize your conscious disbelief that flying is possible can hamper your efforts and you may find yourself unable to get aloft. I remember floating a few feet off the ground as I battled my skepticism. Forcing things at this point tends to generate greater consciousness and you wake up. So go with the flow, don't force it. If you can't accomplish the thing you wish right off have patience and try something more natural seeming, like just walking around.

One thing I found that helped with flying was creating a scenario that gratified my conscious sense of what's possible. What I did was I flew a car. A car is similar to an airplane without wings and we all know how airplanes fly. Therefore, all I had to imagine was that the car had some kind of levitation machinery, like an airplane, which didn't ask as much of my ability to suspend my disbelief as did the Superman like flying I'd tried originally.

It seems consciousness in dreams brings with it the expectations and beliefs of real life. Nonetheless, with a little practice bending these around to match the magical possibilities of the dream world, lucid dreaming is a wondrous experience.

Good luck.

it can but not all the time i have the same problem. Just try to be happy all day and you do not have to have the dreams.
