First of all let me say sorry for your situation, but it sounds like someone in the family stepped up to the plate when you were younger. How old are you now? You already know your biological mother is ill, are you prepared for the chance she might not want to see you? If you are seeking answers from her keep in mind that she might not remember and you already have the answers anyway. She couldn't take care of herself let alone a baby. She done the best thing for you but the hardest thing for her, she gave you to someone who could take care of you and love you as their own. If you want to try to make a connection with her consider all the pro's and con's. If the pro's win then go for it. Accept her as she is, she will not change nor should you expect her to. Consider everything prior to making the decision. Nobody can make this decision for you, just trying to help you sort some things out before you try to make it on your own. Ask your Mom her opinion, she knows her and may have important input.
Have your Mother or Father be an intermedeary.
Bipolar disorder and schizophrenia don't automatically make someone crazy and disassociated with reality. There is an entire spectrum for each of these disorders. You may want to ask family member who knows her well, or knows of her conditions well for more information based on her condition.
