How to Deal With A Friend Having a Bad Trip?!

Question: My friend had a bad trip off of weed the other day. I didn't really know how to deal with it, other than try and keep him happy. I tried to get as much oxygen in him as possible by staying outside with him for fresh air, having him drink a lot of water, etc. I also gave him fruity gum so he'd try and take his mind off the bad thoughts. He's fine now, but just wondering, is there anything else I should have done?

Please no judgment or immature comments towards me or my friend about the weed. Thanks.

no- sounds like you did the right thing. the only other thing is to remind him that the reason he felt like that is because of the drug and that it would wear off and that noone has ever died of a marijuana overdose(you always fall asleep first). chocolate/sugary food can help as well.
keep them smiling, that works for other psychotropic drugs too.
good job.

giving him water is good i would say. and it was good that you tried to keep him happy. i would have done the same thing, and just told him not to worry he would feel better soon.

It's good to remind people "it's only a drug and this feeling you are having WILL go away!" It was nice of you to try and make him feel more comfortable!

They say chocolate can make people happier. Get him go somewhere like dining out or movie....

Yeah, you did everything you could, and he's okay now so it was enough, but maybe try and get him to stop? There are lots of other things he could to do to have fun.
And if it did get worse, you should take him to the hospital, people HAVE died of bad trips off of weed, he might get in some trouble for doing the drug but it will prevent long term problems =(

Sounds like the friend was on a little more than just weed!!!

ur such a good friend! there nothing better you could of done! It was perfect and it came out of your heart! Good TRY!...

I think your friend needs to find a new past time.

That was neither judgmental, nor immature.

A bad weed trip? Weed can befuddle the senses and make you paranoid and out of whack.I'm guessing he's not experienced. That is a sign he should stop smoking and start becoming a better more compassionate person.Find a sport afind a lover, don't get stoned.I am eighteen and living at my moms because I got stoned.I am out of shape,I didn't grow as tall as the rest of my family because I started smoking at 11 or 12.I dropped out of school and now work at pizza hut. My life seemed pretty good,no grilfriend,no real friends,no ambition,no money, crappy car (that now is broke down).Until I stopped smoking weed and than all of the sudden i realised my life sucked completely. You don't have to go through all that, stop smoking.

You can't technically have a bad "trip" on weed because weed doesn't actually make you trip. You can have a bad experience though, I'm sure that's what you mean. Just thought I'd clear that up for you so you don't look uninformed.

The best thing to do is just talk to them calmly and explain that nothing is going to happen and that you're there to make sure everything is OK. Give them some soothing and relaxing music and some water and because its weed, likely they'll be better within a couple minutes because they won't remember what they were worried about.
