Over 200 studies have shown that methylphenidate is effective for the majority of ADHD sufferers. The Methylphenidate-based drugs are Ritalin, Concerta and Metadate.
Adderall XR has done wonders for me personally. It's like being awake for the first time. I have more of an ADD problem, concentration difficulties vs. hyperactivity. I don't know how it works in that case.
Strattera, if it works, would probably have the least side effects because it isn't stimulant based. (For me, it was pretty much useless. But then again, we're all different. Something that works for me may not work for you and vice-versa).
Good luck.

If you can help it try not to take any of them. To many side effects and could lead to dependence and abuse. Be careful.

Well stratterra is the best my cousin has it so ya!

Sports, exercise, and diet. Pay attention to your child. Talk to him\her. Keep sugar out of their diet. All kids are hyperactive. Make sure it's really ad\hd. Do you have any idea how much the pharmaceutical industry profits off of us? The number is in the UPPER HUNDREDS OF BILLIONS. Tell me thats not incentive to push for your child having AD\HD. I personally don't think a 7 year old should be given meds for being hyper or inattentive. Unless it's an extreme case and it doesn't change after puberty. I think parents are too quick to throw in the towel for what is generally a normal childhood problem. YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT MEDS WILL DO TO YOUR CHILD AND HIS\HER BODY. You could be inflicting hormonal changes that could have serious repercussions. Think about it a little bit.

Whichever one you chose, keep a very close eye out for side effects. Sometimes these drugs will intensify feelings of depression and suicide in children. My daughter is 11 yrs old, and has had success on Concerta. We changed her to Adderrall XR last summer - because Concerta was making her lose too much weight. The Adderall made her incredibly depressed within about 2 months - and my happy kid was talking about stabbing herself with a pencil. Swithced back to Concerta and no more problems - except getting her to eat! Good luck!
