Your fear is moivated by your natural desire to protect what is yours, your property and ESPECIALLY your children. You probably ARE hearing things but that is normal, the house makes noise because its in a sense 'breathing', changes in temperature make things expand and contract and your house is no exception. Until you brain isolates those 'normal' ambient noises as harmful, you will hear things periodically. You may also have some internal emotional catalyst - may the memory of some movie or story that imposes itself on you at night. I would reccomend spending time outside. The reasoning on this is, when you spend time outside of your house you become more familiar with your surrondings, you know where you would go in an emergency, what places are easy to access, what places are not, what direction a person could come in, how fast you can get from a to b. After this you simply take some preventive measures, and this will give you peace of mine. Things do happen, but the more you prevent them, the less they happen, and the more secure you will feel

i feel the same way. it's normal for some people. what i do is think of somethink else while closing my eyes and then i fall asleep with ease

i always have fear at night, but i have a family history of schizophrenia... my cure? a loaded shotgun next to my nightstand :)

this is completely normal. your just out of your normal comfort zone. the only reason you feel like this is because you feel guilty about something or you used to live around alot of people. just spend one night with the house unlocked and try to sleep through it with some nyquil or something willingly, when you wake up the next morning and realize every thing is safe you will feel better from then on. if you still feel scared and think to your self i could have been killed than there is something wrong with the area.

Just stop and think of what we are exposed to all our lives on TV and in the movies. Strange and scary things always happen at night. Being exposed to all this violence makes our sub conscience take over during the evening hours and makes us fear the night. It happens to all of us so you are perfectly normal in every way.

It's not out of the ordinary to feel uncomfortable in new environments, especially at night.
However, If it's starting to affect your sleep and quality of life then it isn't normal. I suggest finding a therapist or other mental health professional to talk to about this. It may be an anxiety problem or other disorder.

I feel the same way also but its ok though cuz sometimes ur mind plays tricks on u. wen u stay up it gets quiet and dark and u hear noises but its really nothing its just ur mind...if u really want 2 be safe, wat I do is I'll buy alot of locks 4 every single door inthe house or just call that brinks home security thing

I used to have this problem so we had a home burglar alarm installed. Now i don't have to freak out every time I hear a noise. I know that if anyone actually tries to break in, the alarm will go off. This has given me peace of mind.

Good luck to you.

i was totally scared to death when i moved into a new house.
i never used to sleep properly at nights and was telling my husband that there is something wrong with this house.
then my friend asked me that what i think will save me if something happens.i answered her.she told keep it near u when u go to sleep.so when something happens(which wont,it is all in our mind)u will be saved....this is jus to boost up ur confidence.see now i have a very sound sleep at nights.
but i agree it took some time for me...it will take some time but things will be OK..dont worry...listen to music while going to sleep...this will help relax ur mind....and always have a night lamp in ur room...

You're normal.

I have a big dog in the house. A Weimeraner. She wouldn't hurt a flea, but she does have a ferocious bark!!

If anything or anyone broke in on me and my kid, the dog will wake me and I can do what I have to.

Obey your feelings. Now relax , get a dog and start looking for a live in house keeper. You need another adult living with you like Mom.
