Sickness and Disappointment?!

Question: I feel as if one causes the other, in both ways.
Sometimes, when I'm really upset at the beginning of the day, I find myself getting a cold or a some other minor sickness by it's end. Why does this happen? Is there some biological link?

Certainly it is called conversion reaction it happens on many levels. examples: stress causing heart attacks, worry/stress causing ulcers. It happens especially if you don't express the emotion in some way. Supressed anger can cause headaches, suppressed hate can even in some cases cause cancer. All manner of physical illness are related to our emotions and expression or suppression of them in varying degrees. I mean if you think about it logically why wouldn't elements within the same system effect each other?

Probably, I get sick more often when depressed. I don't see such a dramatic result as you but I do notice an effect. I recall that stress depresses the immune system.

Pull your bottom lip over your head and swallow

yep as they say it is all in your head

I think that they are correlated. Alot of times when people are depressed they experience more somatic problems as well. I know that when I am sick I am not myself mentally either.

I do believe in the theory of "mind over matter". It has been proven that we can literally make ourselves sick. However I do not believe this disappointment causes me to be sick. I do know that if I get depressed over something, then I will have headaches and stomach problems. Even difficulty thinking and short term memory loss because of poor concentration. That is why I must get my mind off of myself and onto something else. I battle this quite often.

Have you discussed this with your docter? I would definately do that, I am sure he has more answers than we can give you.
I do know that depression can make you feel sick and yes, I think there is a biological link. Please talk with your docter.
Good Luck
