Can erythromycin oral cause anxiety?!
Question: I'm a 20 year old college student, and I recently got a small infection, and I was perscribed erythromycin oral liquid (my throat was swollen so I couldn't comfortably take the pills then). This is my first time taking erythromycin, and I have been taking it for about a week now, a few days ago I started to really deal with anxiety that hit fast and hard. I have no reason to be anxious or depressed, and it was very sudden. I found this website linking some erythromycin patients to different psycological effects while taking it.

Anyone have any idea about the validity of these claims? I hardly EVER take antibiotics, and I am not on any other medications. Thank you for your help.

In very rare, very rare situations, anti-biotics can produce psychotic effects such as anxiety and depression. Because it's such a rare side effect, it's only found in the small print.

the answer is yes, i do not take eryc because it causes chest tightness/heaviness, irritability and anxiety for me.
