I had the same problem and I was just diagnosed with PTSD (Post Tramatic Stress Disorder). Did you have a bad childhood? Or did you have a horrible, terrifing experience like a bad car accident or something bad you witnessed? Check out the web sites for PTSD and see if you fit the symptoms and go back to therapy.

I was prescribe an anti depressent and the nightmares are gone!!!! Thank god!!!!! Cymbalta (anti depressent)

Maybe you are suffering from 'night terrors'... did that come up in your therapy session?

Stop watching horror movies, that certainly is first step...or better still, stop watching TV altogether...Cut the Internet crap that fills your mind with stupidity and go walking instead...Find someone to join you, it'll be more fun !

have you been checked out by a physician? there are physical health problems that could cause night terrors.. a few neurological problems for example..

if your health is fine.. then try a different therapist.. and seek the advice of a psychiatrist if you haven't already..

hypnosis may help.. but remember that in order for it to work you must believe that you can be hypnotized.. it may help you to find the underlying cause of the nightmare..

don't be ashamed.. it's not something that you can control..

try to reduce some of the stress in your life also.. it may help..

i hope this helps and wish you the best of luck..

You may need to find a different therapist. Just because this person didn't work someone else may help.

Hi there,
I am suffering with anxiety, I believe one effect of this is bad and disturbed sleep, often with bad dreams. I'm using the Linden Method. Try this, its brilliant.

See recurring nightmares, in section 3, at http://www.ezy-build.net.nz/~shaneris If that fails, try page K in section 3, for the hypnosis downloads weblink, if fairly suggestible. Other alternatives: Hypnotherapy, EMDR therapy, (see section 33, at ezy build) or NeuroLinguistic Programming. Your best bet, though, is to visualise a successful confrontation with the figure in the recurring dream which terrifies you so much. A fear faced is a fear deflated. A fear avoided is a fear strengthened. Can you associate some event in your life, immediately before the recurring nightmares commenced with them? There is a section on dream analysis here at Y!A: you may want to re-post this there, to maximise your chances. It might have helped, had you described the nightmare to some degree.

see i dont know how u got this, when it started, what is ur nightmare.but i know onething that u r very scared.dont be.can u recall what the nightmare is?if yes then try to remember what is the main reason for this nightmare.see nightmare is also a kind of dream and all the dreams are related to our acts which are performed by us.they are inspired by our way of looking at different things.see our brain stores each act which we do or see in a day.some of the things are stored in our brain in permanent location (that is the things we want to remember like some appointment, studies, and day to day things which are essential &important for us) these things r stored cuz we wanted to store them but there r otherthings also which we dont actually store but automatically gets stored without actually knowing. this stored matter could be anything like a picture, scene from a movie, accident etc all these visuals could repeat while we r in unconcious state ie sleeping.there could be sweet dreams but can also be a bad dream.if we r happy&have mental peace than we have sweet dreams but if we r tensed, full of stress and lack stability than we may have those type of nightmares or bad dreams.if u agree than dont worry just get rid of that stress which is haunting u just watch sum funny movie, spend some time with ur family enjoy talking, share ur ideas and stop thinking.just divert urself from negativity if u cant then try to convert -ve to +vety.do some goodthings anything which makes u happy. the dreams maynot be as the things we see but the manupulated once which is dependent on our state of mind if we r sad or tensed than we may see which makes us scared.see if this is what happening to u just think one thing if anyone makes u scared so that u may loose ur peace what will u do? exactly just counter attack see if there is a will there is a way.one more thing if therapy didnt help then what might be the reason?u might have not got out that situation u might have so much engrossed with it that nothing helped.so just get out of it and start enjoying this will recharge ur brain and let u help u forget that and cooperate with ur therapist and let him help u. all the best and have faith in god and start doing meditation that will help u get some mental peace.dont loose hope as it is lifeline of life

When therapy did not help me, things got worse, until I discovered I had the wrong therapist. Please be sure to use a LICENSED PSYCHOLOGIST(not a social worker or psychotherapist and not a certification). Also, call to see if he/she has dealt with your concerns before and what % of their practice addresses it.

i experience something similiar to that recently.
this image constantly pops up in my mind at night, so i've been sleeping with the light on to keep that from happening.
there are little things like that that you can possibly use to prevent these occurances.
