What..is WRONG WITH ME!?!

Question: I'm going to add that my mother has depression, shes Bipolar, and she gets nervous very easily.
And so does my grandma..so maybe it's hereditary.
Anyway, I'm always thinking about the bad things..always being pessimistic and not trying hard to fix them. I get jealous so easily and upset over the littlest things. Like I always think someone is trying to hurt me. When I get hurt I usually hurt the person who I think caused it and then regret it later. I keep to myself a lot, of scared of what other people might think of me. I have the loest self esteem and I'm always on to myself about something. I can't sleep much and I have low energy. I'm always so restless. And in class is when I sleep. I think theres something wrong but I dont know what!

Psychological disorders can and do run in families. Since your mother and grandmother both have depressive illnesses it is more likely that what you are feeling is also a form of depression. This is NOT something you can diagnose or medicate on your own. You need to be evaluated by a professional. You may have something as easy to treat as simple depression, that you could take medication for. The fear, jealousy, and low self esteem are not normal, and to not treat this means cheating yourself out of a good quality of life. I think once you get the underlying condition under control your other symptoms will diminish, or even disappear. Don't give up, and don't go at it alone. Get quality, professional help. Asking your family doctor is a good place to start, but there are also good resources on the web. Try doing a search for mental health services in your community. Good luck!

Nothing is "wrong" with you. Depression and other mental health issues effect millions of people. You aren't alone. You just need to get some help from a doc and a therapist. There are meds out there that can really help you become balanced again. Call your doc and get on the path to getting better. Good luck :)
*We can't give you medical advise, so these are the best answers we have. I don't know what you want when you say "real" answers. There are no quick fixes when it comes to mental illness. A real doctor is the best place you can find "real" answers.*

There is a good chance that Manic-Depression (ie "Bipolarism") is passed down from parents.

Nothing is 'wrong' with you. It does sound like you are suffering from depression, however, if you have not been to see a professional (psychiatrist, psychologist) you should make an appointment as soon as possible. There is help, and if you do have bipolarism or depression, it can be treated!

are u dealing with any problems in your life? that could cause it. under too much strees? see a pychiatrist (i probably spelled that wrong) and maybe they can give u medication. dont worry, ther are plenty of people like you going through the same stuff. =)

Hey! my brother has Bi-polar, & you could have it to sense it runs in your genetics.. Go to a phyciatrist and tell them everyhting you think.. & they will find out what the cause of this is, & listen dont be ashamed.. Lots of people have things liek this & the truth is its not there fault.. Soo i hope this helps you & GET BETTER ( : good luck, Oh! and remeber this noone is perfect...

Whatever you do, DON'T listen to a psychiatrist.

Reason: They have ZERO proven facts or known causes about anything to do with the mind.
Reason: Their diagnoses are utterly unscientific, and they even admit it.

One thing I would recommend is the supplement Vitamin B1. It can be found in any health food store or vitamin store, and it can help you sleep a lot better. It also tends to handle or prevent nightmares; don't know why that is, but I read it and I've experienced it myself as well.

Take vitamins, make sure you're eating right (a good amount of protein, whatever else you're eating) with not too many chemicals. Decide what you want to be good at and get to work on it. Your self esteem will start to come back, and hopefully you'll be able to start sleeping at night.

sounds like you need to get involved with something that will give a feeling of self-worth..
Volunteer or do something for your school/community
Get invoilved in a sport, or start going to the gym with a buddy.

You sound pretty normal...everyone has the feelings you have..they just choose not to admit it.....the key is to stay busy and keep your mind occupied with other things.
One word...do not place to much on what other people think...if you do, you will live the life they choose for you...not the life you would choose for yourself.

you need professional help. ask for it.

everyone goes through some kind of depression so you are not alone but do your teachers see some of this and do you feel comfortable talking to them? Bipolar is not fun i gather but I do have a friend with it and she did do allot of self harm and does worry about what people think. She only became comfortable in talking about her emotional problems when we weren't worried about her slashed wrists. So surround yourself with people you feel comfortable with and explain things to them, even if you don't have bipolar it can help just to vent.

I think that you should ask your mom to take you to the doctors, if you are unable to talk to your practitioner about what you are feeling, go to your school counselor.
You may just be in a rut, has anything tramatic happen in your life recently? It could be that you are trying to bottle in your emotions instead of finding ways to cope with the situation. I know that after my brother passed for the first year I was really depressed (starting my freshman year in HS), but by talking to a psychologist really helped me deal with the guilt I felt, the stresses of adjusting to school, etc. I also went in and talked to my school counselor on my bad days after I ended my session w/ my psychologist.
Some tools to use:
~Write in a journal about things that are bothering you. It allows you to get it off your chest w/o lashing out irrationally.
~Talk to someone you trust about your feelings.
~Before going to bed try to find things that relax you (you can try aromatherapy, Lavander is really great for relaxation) it could be reading a book, yoga, listening to music, etc. Whatever works for you, it may take a few tries.
~Try exercising about an hour or 2 before bed to work out some of the jitters and nerves.
I hope this help, and keep your head up!

I have the same problems, like being paranoid about people hurting me and stuff.

It sounds like you might have Borderline Personality Disorder, which is what I have.

Go to WebMD and look it up, see if you have any of the other symptoms. =]

Oh, my sweet love, I wish I saw your question earlier... There is most certainly a genetic predisposition you have to depression and anxiety. There is no reason that you have to suffer needlessly when we have such good medications without the side effects that were present 30 years ago. Your symptoms are common and will likely respond very well to Effexor XR 150 mg daily. Some psychiatrists may choose a different SSRI, but from my experience this will really help with the anxiety, irritability, sleep difficult, etc. Please don't delay going to the psychiatrist anymore. The medication may take 2 to 4 weeks to work, but you'll be so happy once it starts working for you. So many millions of people have similar symptoms and get better with these rather benign medications that I plead with you to see a psychiatrist.
