Depression. Please help?!


Question: I'm going through depression right now. I can't talk with my family because they are abusive and I can't talk to them about anything, and I'm afraid my friends would be scared if I told them, and I can't bring it up. I just chicken out. I'm depressed because of my home life and I feel like no matter how hard I try, it is not good enough or worth it.

Going through the same thing you are and for awhile i was in denial and didnt talk about it. I tried my family and friends and they didnt get **** and started attacking and blaming me. You need to talk to someone who is familiar with it and will help you get through it. Go see a counselor, if your in school college or high school or whatever they have counselors available for free so go to them and make an appointment everything is also confidential and they are really helpful because they know all about depression and are professionals. I went and talked to one last week and it felt great! meet with them weekly and you will get through it and hopefully so will i. Best of luck!

The best thing i do is think there are allot of people worse off than i am eg some people have lost legs etc. Also just get away from your family by reading a book in your room etc or go out with your friends more often or make some new ones. Also the best thing you can do is exercise because after you get a natural high trust me this works, start a sport or start running/walking/biking etc trust me it will help you and you will meet people. Just smile and be happy.

Aww, Im sorry your in that predictament. I may reccomend you seek to speak with a guidence counselor in school, or your minister at church. If not e-mail me, and i can find some help for you...my sister knows these "help coaches" that do that sort of thing.

You are not depressing anyone here. Don't worry about that. You must take care of yourself. Your friends would probably not be scared if you admitted these feelings to them. However, depression is a serious issue. You should go to your doctor and tell him/her about the problems you face. They might recommend talking to a counselor, or even medication for depression. You have to take the first step though.

Many HMOs and insurance plans are also able to make referrals for help with depression. If you are feeling suicidal, you should contact the national suicide prevention hotline at
1-800-273-TALK

Can you talk to a parent of a good friend, a counselor at school, a teacher??????? someone who can help you sort out this difficult time in your life?? Aunt, cousin, your family doctor, etc.....

You can do exercise and other things, but the depression and situation will still be there when you are done, you really need professional help.

unfortunately depression has not been able to get rid of its ugly stigma. If you have insurance contact the insurance provider to see if it covers mental health. if it does they can give you list of dr's that are covered by your insurance. If you don't (ever state and every county) works differently on providing help with mental health, call your local hot line/crisis/suicide line so they maybe able to direct you on local government agencies that help with mental health, some states are better than others in providing help at low cost. You may need to start taking some anti-depressants but that is up to a psychiatrist to decide. You may want to also look into counseling. Some people do great with counseling and some do great with only meds, some people need both. Don't give up there is help out there....
