i don't know why they say rofl...they're sitting in a damn chair, it's not like they are rolling around on the floor with their keyboards taped onto them so they can type that. when i was 12, i first started using AIM to talk to my friends, that internet lingo crap held up for a month, then i got annoyed with it...so i never have talked like that since i was 12....i may just be the only 16 year old who knows it's stupid to do that...why do they go to school if they can't even type out the full word!
Agree! I hate acronyms and I hate LOL. I mean come on people, no one is really laughing out loud because of the internet!

Most of the abbreviations annoy me as well. However, occasionally I do type "lol" and I am, in fact, laughing out loud when I do. Sadly, it's not all "little kids" who type that way, either. I've seen posts I thought were written by children until the person mentioned having children. Just providing a little perspective for you.

What makes them children. Just because you disagree with a cultural pattern in communication. You must really miss the older style of English or perhaps you would prefer to communicate in Latin or lets go further back and just communicate with grunts.
I suggest you need to relax and not get wound up about things that are irrelevant. Sometimes I do laugh out loud, other times I just smile. So wtf get over it please

Haha I think that it's just easier and faster to type the shorter words. I do think that it is a bit lazy, though when I'm in a rush or talking to many people at one I definately use those abbreviations [Sorry if I spelled that wrong.] I'm only 15 and I think that people my age seriously need to learn how to type correctly. It'll be much better for them if they try to get a job that requires efficient typing skills. But yeah, they are annoying. [like omfg did u hurr wut happnd ystrdy?] XD

Some of the posters are kids and are use to the abbreviations they use when text messaging. Yeah, they could take the time to spell each word out properly (which I do prefer) and even take the additional time to do a spell check (which I really appreciate) but they are in the flow and are doing what comes natural to them.
This site isn't ABOUT correct punctuation and spelling and etc. Its ABOUT people (hopefully) helping each other by sharing some of our hard earned knowledge.
So I try to put up with the LOL and the smiley faces....
Every generation has their language. They probably won't understand their children either. Someone told me once that we should try to keep up with all generations because otherwise our lives become limited. I thought that was good advice. He also suggested that we keep up with technology too for the same reason. We limit our communication if we don't keep up. It doesn't really matter if they use this language does it? I think it's rather clever actually. They save space and money when using their mobile phones. I don't actually understand a lot of it but it's fun to work it out. Maybe you need to try to lol.
