Can stimulants improve one's academic performance?!

Question: I know stimulants can improve one's athletic performance, but can stimulants improve one's academic performance?

Answers: I know stimulants can improve one's athletic performance, but can stimulants improve one's academic performance?

Yes, if one has some kinds of neurological challenges which affect the ability to pay attention easily such as ADHD - Inattentive. My grades at the university went from C's to B's after I began using a mild stimulant - alerting agent - for ADHD - Inattentive; I am an adult with mild ADHD - Inattentive, (C)APD = Central Auditory Processing Disorder, and mild Dyspraxia. The FDA approved medicine I use temporarily reduces distractibility a little and temporarily increases attention span a little. It is not perfect. It works well for about 4+ hours or so. It is imperfect but better than nothing and, for me, works better than much stronger meds such as Ritalin, Dexedrine, and Adderall. I have been using caffeine for ADHD with my physician's knowledge for well over a decade. Good luck.

Yes, but only if the stimulant is being used to treat attention deficit disorder.

That said, be advised that stimulants do not improve athletic performance. Stimulants do not improve [usually] academic performance.

addendum: I am assuming that by stimulants you meant prescription medicines such as amphetamines, and illegal substances such as cocaine. There is some evidence that caffeine can give a tiny enhancement to athletic performance; also, caffeine can add a tiny bit to academic performance as well.

No they have a negative impact. The mind is at its best after a bit of exercise and then clear approach to the subject matter. To do anything to cloud or infringe upon that is a waste of effort and resources. Knowledge comes from learning, inquisitiveness and application and then the stimulant comes from achievement. No other path to academic performance.

I know that some stimulants have definitely been used to help improve academic performance. However, the good effects of these drugs are far outweighed by their negative. Stimulants are addicting and you build tolerance to them. So let's say you took one pill a day for a week and it helped, but now it doesn't, so you start taking two, which helps for a week then stops.... It's an endless cycle that's very difficult to break out of.
So temporarily, I'd say yes, they can improve academic performance. But in the long run, they're only going to hurt you.

Brain tonics can improve academic performance. When i sat for my Nursing board exam i drank an energy drink called Bacchus (locally available) before i took my board exam. I did not experience mental fatigue and headache like most people did. I was fully awake and alert during those hours and hours of exam. I am now an RN. ehehhehehehehe

But you have to take the Bacchus little by little days before your big exam. brain tonic for studying only.
