Is there a link between eating disorders and OCD?!

Question: There are studies that show evidence for both a link and no link. Sometimes a link may be found intrapersonal, but mostly it is a genetic link. One person may have an eating disorder and a relative will have a pre-disposition to OCD.

yes there is, both affect the brains compulsivity

I would think so, they seem very similar and both make people act in ways that are obviously irrational

Yes, most people with eating disorders adopt OCD, These people like to be in control...x

Yes there is a link between OCD and eating disorders.

When you have an ED you can obsessivley count calories - which is an obsessive compulsive thing to do.

Just like depression is linked to OCD, depression is also linked to eating disorders. So the two can go hand in hand, however they are not mutally exclusive.

Both are dealing with issues of control.
You can control what you eat, etc...

Yes, genetically there is evidence for a stong link, especially with regard to restrictive subtype anorexia. There is an abnormality in the 5HT system (serotonin). However, some people think that the link's strength is exaggerated by the fact that some studies have shown that starvation also affects the brain's chemistry and can contribute to obsessive and compulsive thinking/behaviour.
