Is St Johns wort safe to take ?!

Question: Yes, it is safe to take. However, check with any medicine that you are currently taking to make sure you can take it with that.

It is good for the treatment of depression, but you cannot use it in conjunction with some anti-depressants such as Citralopram.

Yes but not if you're on the pill or pregnant.

Yes, but read the label as it tells you what not to combine it with. It works brilliantly for mild depression.
I have taken it for long spells many many times, with no side effects that I am aware of.

It gave me diarrhea

I took it for depression & it made me feel worse. I thought at one point I was going to be put in a straight jacket!

Assuming you're not on any other drugs, than yes, it's pretty safe. The answer would be a definite no (at least not without talking to your MD) if you're on other psychiatric drugs, including antidepressants, as StJohns wort has a similar effect on the brain. Some street drugs, coke, meth, extacy, will also interact badly with it. Even though it's herbal in origin, it's basically a drug, so read the label, talk to your doctor, yadda yadda yadda...

it can be. as mentioned it can interact with prescribed medication sometimes in a dangerous way and it can cause side effects which can be severe for some people.
