I'm unsure if I have AD/HD or can have it.?!

Question: When I was about 6-7 years old I got tested for AD/HD and the results came back negative. I am now 15 years old and believe I have AD/HD I've visted many web-sites etc...
I'm going to the doctors to get "tested" sometime in the next few weeks but, I was just wondering if I didn't have when I was younger, could it still develop in older stages of my life (such as now)?

You can't develop ADHD. Scientists think that ADHD is caused by low levels of specific chemicals in the brain, and certain parts of the brain being underdeveloped. People with ADHD are born with it, although some people seem to grow out of it in adulthood. It is possible that you were not diagosed correctly when you were younger. A second opinion is always good. I wasn't diagnosed until I was 20.

The only thing that might make a difference in your results is the method of testing. Although there is specific criteria somebody has to meet to be diagnosed with ADHD, nobody has come up with specific tests for this criteria. This means that the doctor can use any kind of test they want to diagnose you...if a doctor is not experienced with ADHD testing then you could very well end up with incorrect results.

If you think you have ADHD it's definitely worth getting tested. Just do your research and find somebody who specializes in diagnosing it in children and teenagers. Good luck!

The tests have changed, however it is unlikely that you have developed it now.

It is more likely that you were either borderline before and might get diagnosed today because the diagnosis is much wider these days and is sometimes even overdiagnosed, or that you never had it and never will.

It is quite possible that you just need to focus more. This can be simply a matter of self-discipline.

Either way, just go forward with your plans to get tested and see what the docs say!

Good luck!

well my boyfriend has adhd and he is figity. when we go to a restraunt he has to look at everythig. its not noticably bad but when there is alot going on around him he tends to look at it all. plus he thinks alot and daydreams alot. while laying in bed at nite he suptimes thinks for hours. if you have any of those symptoms you may have it. and yes every 7 years the body changes so u could easily have it now.
