I feel like ending it all?!

Question: I live outside the US, but am a american citizen, I have known for three years now that I suffer from severe macular degeneration, treatment is very expensive, and will last the rest of my life, so I decided to bring my wife on whom I depend to get around, to america, her visa has just been turned down by my friendly government, reason being, I can not support her on my $29.000 yearly income, which is well above the poverty line.

Thanks for having the courage to reach out - and please don't give up. There could be help in lots of places. Many American drug companies offer help for those who can't afford medicines, even providing them for free. Genentech, which makes one to the leading treatments for age-related wet macular degeneration has something called "Genentech Access to Care Foundation" or GATCF for short - and they commit millions per year in discounted or free treatments to those in need. Check the website for whatever treatment your doctors have prescribed and you may find similar options.

On the Visa front, depending on where you live there is often free legal advice that can help you see if there are medical hardship options for your wife - in the San Francisco Bay Area there is a Lawyer Referral and Information Service which provides a 30 minute consultation to help you figure out what options you might have for only $25. There's no obligation - and I've used it several times and been pleased with the service.

These two ideas may not fit your situation exactly - but they are a start, and should give you hope that there are groups of people out in the world who are ready and willing to help others in times of need. Take a deep breath, and keep letting others know how they can help.... Hang in there!

Goodbye, so long, farewell, adieu, auf wiedersehen, sayonara, aloha, mabuhay, c'ya!!!!!
