Has you or anyone you know suffered PTSD as a result of being in hospital?!

Question: I was in hospital last year for 10 weeks recovering from a heart infection. I woke up from a 3 week induced coma unable to move (due to the virus attacking my muscles) and speak (due to a tracheotomy). I could speak and walk again after 7 weeks but found my hospital stay very traumatic due to constant needles, urinary catheters, echo scans, hands on me constantly, being nil by mouth for 6 weeks etc... Have you or anyone you know experienced PTSD or trauma symptoms as a reult of being in hospital?

I have not heard of anyone having PTSD from a particularly difficult hospital stay. But my therapist told me people respond to things differently and if you're pre-disposed to anxiety or were already in a rough situation, it's very possible. At least a hospital stay is a better way to get PTSD than the way I got it. (Not that there IS a good way!) I got PTSD from watching a movie! Now that's got to be unheard of!
Anyway, good luck to you in your recovery!

yes its very possible. my friend had a similar experience and she still has traumatic flashbacks. its not abnormal, but you might want to seek treatment, maybe see your GP.
