Today I decided to make my first steps to find a psychologist.?!

Question: Hi everyone, tell me if I made the right choice, I took an appointment with a shrink. I am 19 years old and am having big depression attacks on regular bases, and no matter what i do it doesn't seem to help, i might get better soon but it's only temporary, i know i'll have another attack and they become unbearable.

I commend you, I worked in Psychiatry for many years, we had young people come in with depression, and I saw many just change and blossom, with medication and therapy.

Really, you are a mature, responsible adult, seeking good medical attention for yourself.

Good luck to you.

I think you made the right choice, you're on your way to recovery.

Finding a psychologist is a great idea. Remember that if you don't like the first one you go to they are all different and they are there to help you, so keep trying until you find one you like that helps.

Firstly, Congratulations for seeking help, ytou shouldn't be ashamed of something just because you need help with it. Secondly, i think you've definately made the right choice. If these attacks are taking over your life then what better then to seek professional help. Whilst this will help immensley, you aso need to sought comfort from friends and family and if you are in a situation where that is not an easy option then go out and find some friends! Remember - there are over 6 biollion people in the wolrd, you've just got to make an effort to find the right one for you!

Good for you! At nineteen your hormones play havoc with your body and your emotions. Couple that with the worries of life and the drives and uncertainty and add depression..it can be sooooo hard! You're smart to start now to get help...it can work to help you make a better life for yourself and others!! No matter how depressed you feel never do anything drastic that may be harmful to yourself or others. Wait 24 hrs...everything can change in 24 hrs and remember, life does smooth out with good tools and more life experience. It really really does. ( and a little medication can help too!)

Yes, you have made the right decision. The first step on solving a problem is recognizing you have one. You are brave enough to recognize this and making an appointment with a professional is the best thing for this situation. Depression attacks could be very bad, if not treated they get worse. So Yes, you made the right decision. You could be medicated for your condition and if you stick to it they do work. Some of these medications could take up to a month or two for you to notice any change so don't give up. It could be the start of a normal and healthy life.

i hope you are helped with this. be aware that your lifestyle choices also reflect on your mental health. do use use drink or drugs for instance? i'm not preaching but i get so many people coming to see me with depression that refuse to give up drinking. alcohol makes us feel worse after the initial lowering of your inhibitions. your psychotherapist won't be able to help you if you are still drinking(if you do of course). good luck with your life

Yes, I'm a psychologist. You can tell me everything. I'm on the internet so that means I'm legitimate.

you have made the first huge step. now all the rest are baby steps. just remember to be honest with the dr.

There's a great way to get rid of depression, fears, addictions, traumas and emotional issues in general. It's a technique called EFT which is costless, easy to do and very efficient. You can find out more information and even get a free (donate if you want) consultation here: http://www.info-santanyi.com/eftservice/...

Oh honey, you did the right thing... I promise these feelings you are having will pass. You are at a point in your life that everything is so big, so overwhelming, so difficult. The psychologist will give you some medication to cope until you can deal with these changes going on inside of you. I promise you will happy, this is only temporary. The part about feeling better will be all of your life, and this difficult time of feeling like crap is the temporary part. This is easy to overcome if you have someone to talk to . If you don't have someone you can share your feelings with, they get all bottled up inside. So, the psychologist will help with this, and if you need a friend, as I have said before, feel free to email me. Life is so wonderful, when you are out of pain.

u made the right choice and its really good that u did somthing to help instead of ignoring the problem like a lot of people will do,,good job and i hope it gets better for u soon =)

You made the right choice. Good luck to you!
