Amitriptyline?!

Question: Has anyone taken this drug before? And did you have any side effects? I took it for the first time on Friday night and it tripped me out on Saturday. I did sleep well but I woke up groggy and I couldn't think the next day. I only took 10mg as prescribed.

Yeah. I took 50mg and felt really wierd for a couple of days, it was like being heavily stoned or something, I felt totally out of it and really groggy, and a bit trippy, so I know exactly what you mean. But don't worry, the side effects won't last for long, after the first couple of days they should subside. It may help to take the tablets before you go to bed instead of in the morning, as the effects of the tablets will last all day but you will sleep through the worst of the wierd and groggy feelings.

It is a kind of antidepressant and should not be used recreationally, I took it years ago and ended up having real hallucinations, that totally freaked me out!!! If you are taking them for medical reasons then use them only as precribed, but If I was you I would get to the root of whats causing the problem and sort it out!!

I took this drug several years ago for migraines.
And I have to say the effects were pretty intense.
It did work for the headaches, and I was well different, but I didn't feel like myself. I because almost hyper from it you would say. I did sleep good, and wasn't ever groggy, but my activity level went up, and I acutally felt a little loopy, so I stopped taking it. I knew when It actually made me tolerate people I could normally not stand, I didn't like the medication.

if you don`t think you can manage the side effects then go to g.p. for a change of prescription. but don`t` forget these type of drugs can take 2or 3 weeks to kick in

I took this drug for severe neuropathic pain several years ago. In terms of coping with the pain it was wonderful and I would request it again in similar circumstances but it did leave me feeling wired to the moon and I had to wean myself off them before I could return to work.

Were they taken under prescription or not if they were prescribed by your doctor then you must go back and ask for a weaker strength. If they are not prescribed then STOP messing about with tablets that could mess your head up permanently

I got prescribed these for sciatica @ 10mg. Stupidly i was irregular in taking them which is bad news. After being on them for a wee while I began to think that all my friends were only an extension of my ego and that people on the bus were terrorists. I explained to the doctor that I had not been regular in taking them and she said that this is why these things were happening so I had to be weaned of them.

At low levels as long as you are careful they should be alright but there are always side effects with every medication.

As with any prescribed medication if you are struggling with the side effects contact your GP. As this drug is used to address the chemical imbalances in the brain side effects can be many and varied depending on the individual. DO NOT drink on them, my friend did the other week and had to go to hospital for all sorts of tests due to the negative effects on her blood pressure, heart rate and mental health.

i would definately never take that medicine i have seen pals tripping on it it should be banned

I am taking it at the moment with Zimovane and I feel wrecked in the daytime, it gives me great relief though.

My gp gave it to me for severe migraine. I chucked it in the bin! As though I didn't feel bad enough.

when i was on it i got up in the morning feeling i had a hangover. i took a few cups of coffee and went back to bed for an hour or so and when i got up again i felt a lot better.
