I get anxiety attacks and I need help controlling it!?!

Question: I used to get them in orchestra class and now I had to quit because of them. Now i get them in my math class, and the other day I started taking piano lessons (after a 3 year dry spell) and I got one too; thankfully my teacher was understanding. But at school there are so many jerks that don't understand. It's so embarrassing going up to the teacher to get a pass to the nurse with my entire shirt wet with sweat. I now buy shirts that won't show sweat justincase this happens. Well with a lot of control and practice Ive stopped having them in my math class by making myself sleepy before the class, but there are those times where Im at the brink of it. And I'm afraid I'll get them in piano again next week. I would try the same thing as I did in my math class but I can't be sleepy during a private piano lesson AND i have less practice in controlling them since lessons are only once a week. I know my anxiety is caused by being scared about getting anxiety attacks. What should I do?

If you need to see a doctor now, don't let the what might happen in the future stop you. Are years of anxiety attacks worth getting cheap health insurance? Also, if you are a visual person like me, you could try imagining scenes. One that i have learned is you are going down stairs, taking a deep breath as you go down each one. Keep going down the stairs until you are relaxed, (about 5-20 stairs, but if you need more there is no limit) when you reach the final step, imagine a door. Open the door and inside is your paradise world. (if you are having trouble with music, maybe in your paradise you are a perfect musician playing your piano, or doing hard math problems excellently) when you feel ready to leave your paradise, take something with you (if there is a bush in your paradise take a leaf for example) and then go back up your flight of stairs. I usually get distracted and stop while going back up the stairs, but at least it helps a little. if this doesn't work for you, there are tons of other types of things like this. I hope this helps :)

go to the dr. and tell him/her you are having those attacks or they may be PANIC attacks ( google panic attacks) i take xanax for mine. they work.

I have the exact same problem.
Mine were severe to the point where I NEEDED medication.
Most would disagree that I needed it, but it helped a substantial amount.
Otherwise there are techniques to slow them down.
Calming yourself down and telling yourself it's not a big deal helps.
It will be hard the first couple of times, but eventually it works.
If you panic from getting one, it only makes it worse, ten fold.
Also, slow, calm breathing helps.
Or just take a breather.
Talk to your school nurse, if you need to leave the classroom for a breather to yourself, I'm sure the nurse could help with that.

You can try a method called EFT. It is acupressure, and it is something you can learn to do yourself. There is a website www.emofree.com where you can get the instructions to teach yourself for free, or you can contact me as I am a qualified instructor. It is easy to do. Looks weird, but works. I no longer have any anxiety attacks at all.

realize that you are ok...you are attempting new things and that is the most important thing...you are doing what you love and to hell with what others think...I sing and play piano and I get so nervous but I've learnt that I'm doing it for me ..not for anyone else...I want to be the best I can and to hell with all the rest

Worrying is a bad habit, you need to overcome it like any other bad habit. Try to modify the factors under your control, that is the only thing you can do. From http://mshn.org/worry.html
