Are there any antidepressants that won't make me gain weight?!

Question: I have a history of clinical depression, and at one point, I was taking Effexor XR to treat it. Unfortunately, though, it made me gain a lot of weight, so I stopped taking it. Thankfully, I've managed to take most of the weight off. However, my depression is making a return. Are there any antidepressants that don't have weight gain as a possible side effect?

Wellbutrin will make you very unhungry at first - perhaps long enough to lose weight.

Effexor ballooned me up, too...don't worry, once you resume normal eating habits, it goes away just as fast as it came.

I wasn't aware that they did tbh, I have only ever had that problem with mood stabilisers. I used to take Fluoxetine and had no problems with it and my boyfriend took escitalopram which is another commonly used one. However your doctor is the best person to tell you what kind of drug is best to treat yourt particular depression.

Yes, Welbutrin XR. I gained weight when I was on Cymbaltra, since my depression was not getting better my new doctor put me on Welbutrin and I lost 10 lbs in less than 2 weeks. Check with your doctor.

... not sure to be honest... I dated a girl that was on Welbutrin once upon a time... and I don't recall it causing her any weight gain. Your Doctor or local Pharmacist should be able to give you the info you need.

Silexa.

This is the one that I take, Dosulepin hydrochloride (INN) (formerly the BAN dothiepin hydrochloride) is an antidepressant of the tricyclic family. It is sold under the brand names Prothiaden and Thaden.

I've never heard of antidepressants causing weight gain. Maybe it was just that particular one you were taking. The one I mentioned above doesn't have weight gain as a side effect anyway.

Best thing to do is speak to your GP about it.

Consult a Homeopath and practise medtation for mere 3 months.

Right I know this is answering your question, but I looked at your answer on another question. Should severe mentaly retarded people be able to reproduce? You answered no than you went on to say somthing about anyone with mental health issues shouldn't be able to reproduce either. I am just curios to why you said this. You have been obviously on anti-depressents for depression, which is a mental health illness. does this mean you will never reproduce cause you suffer from depression? Anyways getting back to your question, There are many anti-depressents out there that don't make you gain wait, as it is normally anti-psychotics that make you gain wait. the best anti-depressents for not gaining weight is prozac.
