Coming out about self injury?!

Question: I started cutting about a year ago, and from the beginning, I know my boss suspected. (FYI, I work at a small, relaxed environment restaurant.) We had a short talk about it several months ago and I used the cat excuse. I doubt he believed me, but he hasn't asked any further. The info I have read on other sites deal with coming out to people who have little or no idea about SI. My boss, however, has read up on SI and has worked with people who have done it. Now I'm actually ready to tell him the truth, but I don't know what to say, or even how to initiate the conversation. The idea of telling him makes me nervous, but he needs to know the truth.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

well i had a similar situation and staring the conversation is the hardest part. it sounds like your boss will be understanding. just be open and honest with him and be willing to accept any help that he may offer

dont do it, unless he asks you about it again...

It is an extraordinarily bad idea to voluntarily disclose your medical and/or psychiatric issues to your employer.

Very, very bad idea.

You can't unring a bell. Once it's said, it's said.

This is better dealt with in therapy - not with your employer.

I don't understand why you would tell your boss unless the two of you are friends.

It's your boss. Regardless of the size of the establishment, there is still a professionalism that needs to be kept.

Don't tell him unless he asks you about it. Even then I wouldn't say anything. It's your business. Not his.

I agree with Michele. Only discuss it after therepy, IF it is brought uo again.

Don't. You owe yourself your privacy in this case.

i never tell adults anything cause they usually tell the whole world. why are u telling him? is it cause u want help? i would recommend telling a therapist or school counselor or something.

Just tell him, "Hey, I don't know if you know, but I self-injure and I'm trying to stop. Just thought you'd want to know."
