I'm have bipolar disorder?!

Question: Diagnosed for 2 years. I am 21 and can no longer afford my medications. I take 500mgs of Depakote twice a day which makes my meds $210. I have an Rx discount card that brings my hefty little total down to $189. I have been off of my meds for 3 months because of money issues. I can't get insured because of my pre-existing condition and my job only offers every insurance known to man (dental/vision/disability/retirement) except health! I scrounged around the $200 and refilled my meds last week and now I'm extremely nauseous all of the time. Could my weight loss have anything to do with my now nausea. Is there any bipolar meds that people have tried that don't cause weight gain AND have a generic drug available? Anybody have any ideas? I've tried that PPA thing, but all I'm getting are discounted Rx cards.
Thanks for listening!

There are plenty of medications for bi-polar disorder that you can buy at Wal-Mart or Kroger for $4. Tell your doctor to prescribe one of those. It's ridiculous that people cannot receive proper treatment simply because the cost of their medication is too high. A good doctor will work with you to find a medication that can help you for the generic price of four bucks, like Buspar.

I don't know what it is. Go to a doctor and get checked out. Prayer and meditation along with exercise help out a lot too.

hey i have it to and i do not have insurance, so the place i go to puts me on a plan with how much i make at my job. I'm sure there have to be somewhere like that where you live! look into it. because you know you need your meds. and that's what the program is about (i cant live with out mind, i can but i would cry all the time and never leave my house)

Seroquel helps me but my insurance pays for it therefore I dont know how much it is.I live in Tn and when you cant get insurance due to pre-existing issues you get insurance thru the state. That's how I get it but I'm only allowed 5 prescriptions a month and only 2 can be brand where there is no generic.5 scripts sounds plenty to some people but for those of us with several heath problems being able to get a few more would be handy especially when Im sick and need more medicine like antibiotics or what not.Much luck to you.I hope you find an answer soon.

I might have to agree with eating healthy and exercising,,,,

But yeah you kinda do need your meds.

My sister takes some pills and yeah she looses and gains weight all the time =[

Hmmm talk to a doctor, but hey try to drink teas and stuff, natural stuff.... Pills mess you up a little...

Ask your doctor about seroquel. It's used for schizophrenia, bipolar disoder, and anxiety disoder.
Only your doctor or psychiatrist will be able to tell you whether or not it is right for you.
With insurance you will only have to pay a 25$ co-pay. I know you don't have health insurance, but there are many plans out there that give minimum perscription coverage for a very low price each month. I am not aware of the drug causing weight gain or loss, but it will make you tired. You also only need to take it once a day. It's been around for a long time, so it's possible there is a generic brand, but I am unsure.
Also, see if you can find a clinic that asks you to pay on a sliding scale. They'll only ask you to pay based off what your income, and will take uninsured patients. There are many clinics like that out there, so it is worth investigating.
