"Depressed", Whiny, Self-Centered Lazy-Louts Annoy Me. How 'Bout Y!

Question: I'm sick to death of the overblown pervasiveness of "depression" and "mental illness" in mainstream Western society today. "Depression" is advertised and touted as being commonplace, socially-acceptable and even "cool" (i.e. "Emos", "Goths"), and lazy-lout adults who can't cope with life play the depression card in order to weasel out of responsibility. Every little negative feeling, emotion, or ill-fortune one is beset with is branded a "symptom" to be medicated away. We must put an end to this, else to the sufferers themselves...who's with me?

True depression, clinically diagnosed, does not annoy me, as I know first hand that it is a real condition that can ruin your life. Now, as for the attitude of those Emos or Goths, that is a whole other side of things. Yes, they do annoy me. Maybe if they got off of their butts and work and hang out with friends who don't act all down, they would start to enjoy life.

Yes, and when they blow smoke it gets really sick. You should line them up for spankings with the wooden boat paddle.

I think it's naive to think that everyone plays the depression card for all its worth because of little negative feelings. Though I agree that at points it has gotten out of hand, I think that depression is a serious disease. And to automatically assume that someone is just playing it up to get out of responsibility or to gain attention is ignorant.

No one can really know what someone else is going through. Whether they are playing it up or are really suffering, I don't see the point in not showing those people compassion.

Morticia!?! Really, you have a lot of nerve calling names and labeling. Get a life of your own and I hope you never suffer from depression. It is a living hell.

what annoys me are judgemental a holes that can't keep their opinions to themselves. who died and made you the all wise God of what is "depressed" and what isn't? You have a psychiatric degree? You a trained mental health professional? Do you know damned thing about what you are judging here? I bet not, or you would have kept your silly thoughts to yourself.

People get treated for depression because they drink alcohol and smoke drugs -- thats why they are depressed.

As a sufferer of a depressive disorder, I find your views repulsive.

I'm not whiny - hardly anybody knows about my illness.

I'm not self-centred - the reason I don't tell people is because I don't want to worry, upset or burden them.

I'm not lazy - I do what I can, when I can. Sometimes it's a struggle but I try my best.

There are many other people like me. People who are suffering a terrible illness and who are trying their best to cope.

Don't marry the wrong person and him end up being abusive to you leaving you depressed----and then hopefully you will not be a lazy adult.

i wish i could throw you dose of depression......and see how you cope....it's easy to talk down on something you haven't experienced
