Is epilepsy classed as a neuropsychiatric disorder?!

Question: No, not today, year 2008. It was a number of decades ago. That's my understanding.

At the same time, there are neuropsychiatric clinics today where persons suspected of having some type of epilepsy are referred to for observation as to whether obvious seizures will show up. (There is a trend to replace some of that with automated equipment - ambulatory three day EEGs, etc. - outpatient testing today).

The business of medicine - Epilepsy has been alotted to the neurologists today vs other challenges such as ADHD - ADD which has been alotted to the psychiatrists. Good luck.

No, epilepsy is a neurological disorder of the brain. There are two types of seizures: grandmal and petit mal. The grand mal is the worst of the two and the petit mal are like mini seizures.

My husband had epilepsy. You can still live a normal life but will have to be on medication to control the seizures.
