What medication is usually prescribed for PTSD? I have tried Wellbutrin and Lexa!

Question: My mom was killed tragically and I am seeing a doctor tomorrow. What is the best medication for this? I am having such a hard time sleeping and I am constantly scared and panicking, sweating. Can a doctor help me? I dont want to see a pyschiatrist

What do you have against a psychiatrist? Honestly they are the best to treat post traumatic stress disorder. I've recently started therapy for this and it's working wonders. I was beaten, raped & held against will for 2 days when I was a teen and have recently began having sleep disorders panic attacks and severe nightmares...I'm getting better though. Give a shrink a chance your life is only at stake

ask for alprazalom.

maybe even ambien cr

skip the meds and just go through the normal grieving process for now. see a psychologist if you've felt horrible or depressive more more than a couple of days. PTSD results usually from witnessing and actual horrible death and being involved for an extended amount of time under horrible duress rather than the loss of a loved one. You more than likely have simple depression that will go away in short time (typically 4-7 weeks). The doc may give you a simple sleep med. Avoid alcohol or self-prescribing other meds, talk to other family members, make peace with the deceased, see a family therapist for a few sessions. write us back or me (I'm studying family therapy, and am in no way an expert, but i find these conversations fascinating and i love to be of help and you may help me to be a better therapist or counselor someday.) remember, in any crisis, there is an opportunity. you may not see it that way yet, but in time this will benefit you or others in some way. Maybe a close friend of yours will lose a loved one someday, if you survive this, you'll be best situated to help that friend since you'll have gone through a similar experience. and no matter if you are male or female, there is nothing wrong with crying. My big recommendationL skip the meds and avoid alcohol for awhile.

You should see a psychiatrist. Sorry, but they're the specialists in this. You wouldn't see a Gastroenerologist for skin cancer, so don't use the wrong specialist for the problem at hand.
SSRI's (Lexapro, Celexa, Prozac, Zoloft) have a good history with PTSD.
There is newer data regarding the use of Beta Blockers, and this may be worthwhile in asking him or her about. It has really helped some Rape victims, they still remember the event, but are not paralyzed by the fear and flashback type thing.
I'm sorry for your loss. Peace.
