Question about sleep?!

Question: Last night, I did not sleep at all, I culd not sleep, I tried everything to fall asleep (warm milk, nyquil, etc.) and nothing did it. i was up all night and could not sleep at all. other nights, im out in 5 minutes, but why couldnt i sleep last night??? is it normal to have nights where i can't sleep. the weird thing is ive been up more than 24 hours, and im more energetic than when i actually get sleep. what does this mean??? How is it im awake more then 24 hours, yet im more energetic without sleep??? am i overtired, or is my sleeping cycle out of whack, because on weekdays, i go at a normal time, but weekends, i stay up super late (3-5 AM basically). help plz!!!

Is it possible you might've eaten something that jacked up up??? or perhaps eaten too late in the evening or had caffeine drinks? Exercising too late will rev people up rather than calm them. Also, lots of people are mentally over stimulated by PS games, television, certain types of movies, homework problems late at night, etc., all could contribute to an inability to fall asleep.

What was on your mind? Sometimes our thoughts are trying to tell us something, or keep us from forgetting things we need to remember. Did you have a test the next day or an appt. to keep for instance.
Were you perhaps writing poetry, emailing someone or composing a song or playing online games?
Any of these activities really act as a stimulant to the mind processes rather than as calming influences.

IF you can rule all the above out, then I would say from what you've written, that your normal body rhythm is interrupted and confused. You really can become overly tired and the brain just won't shut down and allow for deep recuperative sleep. A more normal routine is better for you in the long run than the erratic sleep habits and the problem you are currently experiencing is the reason that lots of folks try to make bedtime pretty much a routine time frame and try to get a healthy average of sleep time as well.

be careful..burning the candle at both ends can be dangerous if you do it too long. Go to your doc & tell him about it

my sleep doctor said stay out of bed till your sleeper, are Md's a problem, vitiamc, steroids, pain killers, been not doing any moving around.. my c=PAC i sleep with sometime keeps me awake. well good luck

you should really have a sleep pattern, that could be a huge part of your problem. when you get up/ go to bed at different times ev eryday you're really hurting your body and effecting your sleeping patterns. really really try to get on a pattern and after a few weeks if you see no changes contact a doctor, it could be insomnia.

and for now, when you cant sleep try stretching. I used to have sleeping problems and i went out and bought a sound machine and i turn it onto rain and stretch before bed. it really helps my mind clear and get me ready for sleep.

Sounds like your natural sleep cycle or 'inside clock' is at odds with the hours your school or work routine forces you to keep. You sound like a typical 'night person.' There is a theory that people who start to become more mentally alert after 10 p.m. have genes left over from a long line of ancestors who once stayed awake all night to guard the groups or villages.
