Was I abused?!

Question: ****! I just filled out this questionnaire about self harm and it asked about sexual abuse, all I could think of is a time when my father kissed me full on the mouth, tongue and everything. I cringe as I write this. I also remember an older cousin making me do stuff, touching stuff, I never thought I was sexually abused. But if something such as exposure to pornography is child abuse...then what the **** do I class what happened to me. The things that happened I consider minor and mainly pushed them far back in my mind. I'm aware how stupid this question is and I can't believe i'm gonna ask it, but...was I sexually abused?

Don't feel stupid for asking this question. When we have bad things happen to us, it's natural to suppress it or deny that it was real. But if you are remembering these things and questioning them, then I think you already know the answer. You are just looking for comfort and reassurance from others. And Yes, I believe you were abused.

If you remember all of that! yes

Yes.

That's not a stupid question. I say you were definitely sexually abused. Contact a therapist if your having thoughts or hurting yourself.

That sort of inappropriate behavior from a father is abuse. I've known people before who grew up with it and didn't realize that anything was wrong, but yes, it is certainly abuse. I'd recommend talking to a counselor about it---First, to increase your awareness, and second, to deal with it a bit. Though you may not realize it, it's likely that it affected you. I wish you the best of luck.

yes
