What to do about getting help on self cutting?!

Question: i have a illness and i feel like people dont understand.

Answers: i have a illness and i feel like people dont understand.

i have had problem with cutting for just over a year and have found that when i spoke to someone (a concellor at school) they did understand, she helped me alot and i dont do it anymore, she didnt make a big deal of it and dealt with the feelings surrounding it really well.
Taking the first step of telling someone is tough but things will be easier if u do, good luck x

well i understand because i use to be a cutter and just talk to the ones you love because they will understand and help you get help or help you the best they can.

i had a problem with cutting from 13 years old till i was 19, i found a group therapy that was just for people with a self abuse problem. finding a good therapist and surrounding yourself with positive and supportive people can do wonders. I still struggle with not doing it, but i havent cut in 2 years now

Many years ago, I too used to cut myself. I used a razor blade. I did it to relieve emotional torment. The minor pain it caused helped take my mind off my emotional pain for the moment. It was also a cry for help. When I finally sought help for my emotional problems, I eventually stopped. Somehow, just admitting I engaged in self-inflicted cutting was a big help to me. The secret was out. I have since learned that this is not an un-common symptom of emotional distress. Talking about this problem greatly helped me. I also was prescribed an anti-anxiety medication. Please find someone you can talk to about this and find out if medication could help you. Good luck

Cutting itself is a symptom, not the illness itself. Good luck with your efforts in healing.

Youve took the first step in getting help, so well donw for that! Admitting youve got a 'problem' is the hardest part of getting help, you cant get help untill you want to recieve it so well done!
So what to do next? you need to ask yourself who do you want to tell? Is theresome one in your mind that you want to tell? Parents, teacher, doctor, councellor at school? If you want help telling one of thesse people or another adult ask a friend to come with you for support.
If you wanted to tell someone at sch but didnt want your parents to find out, you could ask your teacher if they need to tell your parents anything you say and take the conversation from there. Your teachers WILL understand, you are not alone, many people at your school will have the same problem. After a lesson one day just ask a teacher you trust if you can have a private chat with them for a few minutes, but it may be best for you if you can organise it for a lunch or break time as between lessons you may be a bit rushed, and so feel pressured and that wont make it easier for you. When i got to the point where i needed to tell someone, i told my teacher if ound the hardest part getting the word 'ive been cutting myself' out. I physically couldnt do it. If you have the same problem, dont worry, you can write it down or just show your arm/area of body to your teacher. Sounds sick but it was honestly the easiest thing for me to do, i couldnt say what i had been doing, it made it seem to... real. Mad i know. Anyway, once you have told the person you trust and want to tell your situation, they will probably lead the situation, they will give you the help you need and importantly they will be able to keep an eye on you, be there to chat when your having low times, be there to approach when youve cut to deep.
I wish you the best of luck, there is always someone out there willing to listen. People will understand, to start with i couldnt express why i was doing it or how i was feeling that made me do it. It gets easier. If the first person you tell dosn't want to listen, tell another, if tehy wont listen, tell another. There are people out there who want to help you
