I lost about 30 lbs in my first year on Effexor. My sister lost weight as well, however not as much as I did. If you are already slim (I was a curvy girl so didn't worry about it) I would suggest you talk to your doctor about ways in which you can remain at a healthy weight. My slim sister was worrying about losing too much, so her doctor gave her a special diet to follow to make sure she didn't become unhealthy.

No, venlafaxine (effexor) makes you LOSE weight.

I was prescribed it a few weeks ago and had the same concern. My doctor told me that if you are at a healthy weight (which you are) then you are likely to stay the same or even lose. The pattern he noticed with his many patients is that the gainers were already obese and had food issues related to depression.
I only lasted a week on it, because of blinding headaches. I couldn't even look at food on it, so I can't imagine gaining.
I would say give it a go and then if you see your weight creeping up, talk to your doctor about a different medicine.
I'm not sure what all you've tried, but Wellbutrin is very helpful for depression and does not cause weight gain at all.
Good luck!!
