Generally sad, can't think of a concrete reason why?!

Question: lately i've been getting extremely upset, it's triggered by random small things and it's completely unreasonable. This used to happen to me very often (at least once a night) and has since subsided, but it's starting to happen again.

Today I made a cake and it didnt come out the way i wanted it to. I cried and started thinking that i'm worthless. I don't want to do anything. Thinking about the future terrifies me. I have to move back home in about a month, but I don't want to. I'm under the impression that "depression" is over diagnosed and I don't know if I'm similar to most people or if I'm out of the ordinary.. anyone have any insight? It's starting to put a strain on my relationship with my live-in boyfriend.. : (

It could be that you're worried and stressed out, the winter blahs, or it could be depression.

The winter blahs are generally known as SAD, or Seasonal Affective Disorder. It's caused by lack of sunlight, and is perfectly normal.

Depression is two things: psychological and generally linked with stress, or clinical which is an actual illness means that your brain simply isn't producing enough endorphins (aka happy hormones) and is hereditary.

Here's a few things you can try:
Exercise - it creates what's known as a "runner's high", which is created by strenuous exercise (like running, aerobics, or playing a sport), and activates endorphin production. Therefore, go for a walk outside. It may be cold, but taking a walk not only will give you a strenuous workout, but will expose you to sunlight, which can help.
Talk to someone you trust (preferably a girl friend), who will just let you vent and will support you. It's a good way to talk out things that are stressing you out and can help you work things out mentally.
Laugh - It's been scientifically proven that laughter is linked with the activation of a prefrontal cortex of you brain, which produces endorphins. Laughing up to 40 times a day not only burns calories, but it does make you feel better. Try watching funny movies and reading the daily comics online or in the newspaper.

Hope this helps!

maybe it's the fact that you're feeling a bit isolated. i get that too, especially because i live on my own, but when i feel like that i make an extra effort to go for a walk or to meet with friends and just try to forget my sadness. hope this helps, and that you feel better soon :)

You may just have an anxiety problem, or you could have a hormone imbalance. You could also be pregnant. Go to your doctor, ask for a blood test, and also ask for a pregnancy test. Let your doctor know what your feelings have been, and you want to know why.
