Question About My Mental State?!

Question: I suffer from manic depression - according to my psychologist. I often hear voices and flashes of shadows/beings around me, I'm taking medication. Is this normal? Or is this something I should be worrying about?

Halucinations like voices and shadows are indicators that your dopamine is not in balance. Medications that help with dopamine imbalance really well are the new antipsychotics. Seroquel SR is really good. I take 300 mg per day. Make sure it's the SR version, though. The regular version isn't as good in my opinion. I'm not scared of my halucinations when I have them. I just know it's time to take my Seroquel SR. It's calms my mind and my senses. It's a good medicine.

Lol, you know it's depression. As long as you take medications, you'd be fine. But take note that some medications have side effects. And, if I tell you you should worry about it, it will make you even more depressed. So I'm not going to tell you. Keep in mind that everybody goes through that stage and it's completely normal.

Sounds like it's normal for you - that is, not something modern psychology would consider part of normal human experience.

Do the voices and visions bother you, or do you just live with them? If you're okay with them and they don't disturb you, you shouldn't feel that you *have* to get rid of them. But if you do want to, bring them up with your psychologist. They'll probably want to prescribe you an antipsychotic to counter them.

If it was me, I would be concerned as to why I have the condition. Is it hereditary? My father has bi polar disorder and anxiety problems. I also have problems with anxiety and take medication for it. If you have a good doctor/psychiatrist you should be ok.

If you are hearing/seeing these voices/images frequently, you are dealing with more than bipolar disorder. Make sure you mention these auditory and visual hallucinations to your psychiatrist (the person who prescribes your medication) when you see him/her next. A dosage and/or medication change is likely in order.

It is NOT common for folks with bipolar disorder (manic depression) to experience frequent hallucinations. People with bipolar disorder may, when episodes are VERY SEVERE, occasionally experience psychotic symptoms (e.g., hallucinations), but not "often" (as you described).

Go with your psychologist. it will all work out ok.

I have bi-polar which used to be manic depression. When you are real depressed your mind does crazy things. I do not go to a psychologist, I go to a therapist once a week or if I feel depression coming on I will call to see if I can get in to talk to him. I wish everyone could have the therapist I do. I had one before this one, but she had to move and she was absolutely wonderful. I think therapist are better because you can talk and actually hear what you are saying and maybe figure out on your own what is going on inside your head. Does your town have a guidance center there? You should check it out. I would be worried about hearing voices and flashes of shadow/beings around me. Have you talked to your psychologist about it. And if you are, is he taking you serious, you know actually listening to you? You know doctors sometimes hear you but they are not really listening. I wish you the best with getting some serious help from your psychologist. God Bless you and stay safe and I hope your mind gets well. Someone asked me at the beginning of the year, " If you could have 3 good things to happen to you this year, what would they be?" And I said for my boys and wives and my grandchildren to be safe and healthy, For my test for MS to be negative and for my mind to be completely fixed !!" What would yours be? Stay safe and MAY GOD BLESS AND BE WITH YOU !!!! I hope I have helped you some.

Medicine will fukc you up. You are better off without it.
