Can't sleep...suggestions?!

Question: Ok, so I am a former Marine that was medically discharged from service because of a knee injury about 2 and a half years ago. The past week I have been having flashbacks and VIVID nightmares about my enlistment. Everytime I close my eyes I can see pictures of things I wish I'd never seen. I've tried theraphy, didn't work. Any suggestions on how I can get some sleep?

what u have gone through is probably hell and i admire u greatly for it. try taking a deep breath hold it and release it slowly do this several times. guessing that the nightmares must be deaths and pain, the best treatment is to embrace those memories completely, swallow them, remember them. begin by emptying out you mind completely except for a flickering candle fire and start to feed those memories into them, one by one until only an emptiness remains. then start to retrieve the memories one by one slowly and try to understand why they happened and how. try to realize that what is done cannot be undone and who ever died no longer feels but sleeps. and as u cry over them and exhaust every one, toss them back into the bon fire and reduce them to ashes. they say time heals everything, but as long as u live u will carry those scars. whatever horrors they were, they are caused by human stupidity and as long as u dont indulge in those foolishness, u will deem urself strong. U are the strongest person, nothing in the world could possibly compare with ur experience. as ur memory fades, they will merge to gray.
nxt, clear ur mind again and this time focus ur self as a cool pond of crystal clear water. toss ur problems into the water and take deep breathes trying to merge yourself with the water as one. repeat this in ur mind: cool, gentle , crystal , calm, clarity, and fade into dim blue. now dive into the waters and somersault and flow through these exercises. every time stress pulses through u, take a deep breathe to counter it, and this will lull u to sleep.
always reduce stress in ur environment, drink plenty of ice cold water and relx constantly with a book and a bag of crystal sugar candies (sugar free from Costco lol) and suck on them slowly, drain on them and try to feel the estcsey of merging the sweetness with ur warm feelings, they reallly soothe u. reorganize ur room for a better view and peace will eventually seep through u as u realize that u now live a content life, and when ur time comes u will go as a leaf falls from the tree after autumn. good luck to u

watch a boring play....

drink burbon until you pass out. Meditate, count from 0 upwards visualizing each number in your head, my highest is 800. The hardest part is to stop thinking. If that doesn't work buy sleeping pills from your pharmacy.

you really should talk to a doctor or therapist. this is a serious problem. probably post traumatic stress and you need some medication.

Sounds like a little Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). I would talk to your doctor about this to see what else can be done. Therapy and counseling are just one small part of managing this difficult and delicate situation. Also, if you are having vivid nightmares that are affecting your sleep schedule, this will only get worse.
Good Luck

talk to a doctor is what you should do first. I think you should relax more and just have fun whatever your doing now.

Try to switch to something happy. That's what I normally do....think of your favorite hobby, your favorite food, etc., and see if that may help. Maybe write down these flashbacks you're having in a journal...maybe get your head cleared out. I really honestly don't know what else to tell you....but I do hope I helped in some kind of way. I hope you can get some sleep, dear. Take care xox

Try finding a new hobby to do when your stressed or need time to relax, maybe that will help with your sleeping patterns. If not, maybe you should try seeing a doc again. My hubby was in the Marines and hes experiencing something similar now that hes out... I think you can go to the VA and get it checked out, hes been planning on going for awhile now.

Good luck.

I am not sure, but maybe this site can help you out http://insomnia-relief-center.com it has some good tips, but it seems like you may have tried alot of things already. Hope it helps.
