My doctor prescribed Xanax. I take this only if I absolutely need it. Controlled breathing also helps me...taking deep breaths in and out.

Age. I grew out of mine. :)

But I know not everyone is that lucky. Anti-anxiety medications work for many. A paper bag works for some. For me, I never understood the paper bag, I always sat down and put my head between my legs. It's so tough to remain calm during an episode though - I do remember that.

When I get panic attacks, I get chest pains and shortness of breath and feel like I'm dying. Try listening to music, go outside in the sun, go for a walk, try to read, just remember (as I have to) that no one has ever died from a panic attack. And you'll get through it, take it one day or one hour at a time if you have to.

personally for me its a combination of xanax, and weed. When these two are taken together for me (xanax not everday, just when im feeling one coming) the panic attacks never evolve into full fledged ones. Thats for me personally, my panic attacks are virtually gone with weed but for some people it gives anxiety, so try a bunch of thigns and see what works best... xanax klonopin and valium are the best actual legal meds that work ive found

I found that prevention is the best thing so I look out for signs that I am getting too stressed, and make an effort to de-stress, distance myself or relax. Of course, I don't always have the luxury of doing that .. in which case I try breathing exercises, stretching exercises or walking, drinking a lot of water, meditation.

I used to get a lot of panic attacks earlier, but don't get them much these days, mostly because I try to stay aware of my stress levels. I used to keep a written list of "things to do during a panic attack" - that way I could refer to this list when in the middle of one, cos I would be in no condition to remember all those useful and comforting things without that list!

I have a website which has lots of links to healing resources. It's for abuse survivors, but you may find the page on Emergencies useful, as I've posted links to good articles and information on Panic Attacks there.

try deep breathing and meditation. find a happy place and go there in times of stress
