Sleep? Tips?!

Question: Mondays - Fridays I have to wake up at 6:30 am for school. On weekends I rarley sleep in past 9:00 am. I don't stay up later than 10:30 or 11:00 pm. In the morning I don't just feel tired, but I feel like I only got an hour of sleep. I do not have a sleeping disorder but I can't relax my mind enough to go to sleep. Do you have any tips or ways I can relax and/or get to sleep faster? thanks, SmartBlonde

some things you could try instead of sleeping aids:

drink a hot beverage right before you go to bed, like "Sleepy Time" tea or something like that without too much sugar.

try hiding your clock so that you cant see it

try eating turkey, cereal, peanuts/peanut butter, or drink warm milk before bed. dont eat a big meal right before you sleep though.

dont exercise right before bed.

i hope these help!

You might need a sleep aid to help ease you to sleep.

There is also a drug called "Provigil" for people that have exessive sleepieness. 100mg is the most common. I take 200mg and I get thru the day and when i go to bed I am gone out to la la land.

Dont consentrate on anything especially sleeping because you will be distracted and will not sleep. just let you mind go and dont try to control it.

I've had the same problem. I think it's the quality of my bed or something... but I use Tylenol PM or Nyquil PM knocks me OUT. worth a try.

You need to retrain your thoughts. The book, Restful Sleep by Chopra helped me a lot. First, let your mind wander freely don't even focus on sleeping. Next, remind yourself that sleeping is not something you "try" to do--it's something you just do. If you don't fall asleep within 30 min. remind yourself that it's okay if you don't fall asleep because your mind will renew itself. Think about peaceful things. Get out of bed and have a snack or watch TV. Also, try a glass of warm milk. Well, good luck.

Hey smartblonde!
i have problems with sleep too, and i take melatonin at night. You can find it at Wal Mart or any health food store and it is great for helping me to relax before i have to go to sleep. If sleep is unrefreshing, maybe you should tell your doctor. He might be able to refer you to a sleep clinic so they can figure out why this is happening. Also...one of the main things that helps me is exercise. Everyone says it, and i hate exercising, but when im done i am exhausted and have an easier time with sleep. Hope this helped!

Exerciing throughout the day to tire yourself out can help you fall asleep faster. Yesterday I went horseback riding and when I got him I fell asleep like a baby.

When I have trouble falling asleep, I turn my TV on or have music on softly. Sometimes I like to have noise on occasionaly in the background.

Regards.
