How do you really know if?!

Question: you suffer from depression and have you ever been in denial when you knew you had depression?

Answers: you suffer from depression and have you ever been in denial when you knew you had depression?

Yes.
As I feel my depression slowly creeping back in, I keep trying not to pay attention to it. As the weeks go by I will get a lousy feeling that I don't want to think about.
Slowly I come to realize that I feel more depressed once again. Denial keeps us going for a while until the depression settles in enough so that we can no longer look the other way.

there are quizzes you can take. i'm sure there are some online. like if you score 7 out of 10 symptoms etc you might be depressed. never been in denial. i'm screwed up and i know it! peace!

feeling the blues for more than a few weeks, crying, loss of interest in things, suicidal feelings, change in physical appearance.
Some People think it is life stresses and it is normal so it gets over looked for along time.

I don't want to sound unsympathetic, but for most of human history, people have felt down and miserable at times, it has affected their lives and their relationships to a greater or lesser extent, and they have found some meaning and purpose, ultimately, in the experience. We seem to have reached a time when everyone imagines they should be happy all the time and that feeling down is an experience that should be removed as fast as possible.

If you are coping with your life and have any sort of social existence, then you are NOT suffering from the sort of depression that needs medical attention, and so deciding whether you suffer from something that would be labelled depression by some people is not a particularly purposeful exercise.

If you recognise that there are problems which keep tripping you up, patterns that keep recurring, or feeling low, then you would probably benefit from good therapy. You don't need a label of depression to seek out therapy. Hopefully it would enable you to find a sense of meaning and purpose in your life, would take you through the byways of your own inner life etc.
