I lost some of my memory... Can i get it back?!

Question: Hi. I recntly was put under general anesphetic. I was also given the strongest sedotive the doctor could give me. It was a simple prosidure. Six teeth extractd. But the about 1 and a half hours after i woke up i dont remember. I remember small flashes of the recovery room and things. But basicly iv forgoten almos everything until i arived home. Apparently i watched finding nemo, but i dont remember this. I could try hypnosis or something? Anything you can recomend?
PS. I have self hypnotised before quite a few times, i often do it to releave pain. But im no expert on it. It has worked for me though.

Um if I were you I'd be happy of losing the memory of watching Finding Nemo.

But to answer you question, repressed (or forgotten) memories usually come back when you remember a trigger (a trigger being a core aspect of the memory). A classic example being a tragic memory or something from a person's childhood that is forgotten, but remembered when they see something like that years later in their adulthood.

The same thing will probably happen for you, in a way smaller scale. Go pick up a DVD of Finding Nemo, and you might start to remember your day. Don't know why you'd want to remember getting 6 teeth pulled out, though...

How do you know you lost your memory? Is someone telling you that or do you remember that you lost it? :)

Not sure...I don't remember.

I would not worry about it. Just be who you are.

try talking to your friends or pictures and schools.

Why do you need to remember, the reason you have forgotten is because you were still under the influence of the anaesthetic. It is not a long term problem , dont understand why you need to know,,,its unimportant

Your memory can come back, but it basically takes a little time and triggers. What I mean by triggers is that it could subconsciously be a place, smell, song, or even maybe a food. Be aware though that the memories you get back may not be good so it depends...

The anasthetic and sedatives where still wearing off, so your brain still wasnt functioning properly. You wont remember what happened within those few hours, but it doesnt really matter because you wont be losing anymore memory now that its all worn off.

you must stay calm and try to remember soon you could fall asleep and try to picture something you have been wanting to remember if that doesn't work im sure it will come to you

It should come back to you in time. Ask the person who drove you home what happened and try to remember as they tell it to you.Maybe you were in and out of sleep too.

Yes it can happen. I had wisdom teeth removed and was placed on heavy medication afterwards. I lost track of an entire day. Apparently I said things to some people that I have no recall of even saying to them.

I also had surgery last week, and don't remember anything the surgeon said to me in the pre-op area after the initial sedation was administered. My wife was with me and said that I talked to the surgeon, but I don't remember a thing.

It's all about the amount and type of anesthetic and sedation that's administered.

Why would you want to remember that time anyway? People don't remember car wrecks either. When your body goes into shock so does your mind. Everything is concentrated on survival, keeping your heart beating and breathing. I had surgery on my spine. In recovery I clearly remember being in the bottom of a huge glass bowl, laying on cushions that were covered with brightly colored beach towels. Somebody was trying to put stockings on my legs, and I was fighting them. 36 hours later, my surgeon informed me that he had talked to me in recovery and had explained everything he'd found and done, so I had no reason to have any questions. He was a good surgeon, but a terrible doctor. I also don't remember getting up and walking home after being under anesthesia for tooth extraction, but I did.

if you can remember how

the question is a joke because finding nemo is some language maybe finnish for finding nothing or no one they knew by creating this finding nemo would stand out most in our heads
