How to help or support depressed person?!

Question: I have a friend who is a father who is depressed.. deeply depressed as in hospitalized and recently released. I'd like to know how to approach and support him. I'd like to take him out for a bike ride or something, but that would be totally out of the blue and awkward, and he probably wouldn't go for it. any suggestions for how to support depressed people?

Hi, well I have had depressed friends...One of the first steps is to tell them you support them, and are there for them whenever they need it. Don't pressure them into anything they don't want to do. I really recommend just having fun (like a baseball game, bike ride is a good idea, or going out to eat). Just encourage fun and activity.

Talk to them, that is the best thing you can do.

tell him if he has anything to get off his chest he can tell you and you wont tell anyone.

Depression is anger/anxiety turned inward and when you can let it out, it is like your problems just floating away.

Simple, tell some funny stories or jokes as he would like. Then ask him what he want to do for fun==do a hobby

what a great friend you are.when he gets over his depression he will be really greatful but at the moment i think he needs to just see your face.
