Am I Crazy? A sleep related question?!

Question: I have a sleeping problem of sorts... I can't shut my mind off. I begin to panic because I am not sleeping and I should be. This has gone on for over 10 years off and on. When I am having bad spells the anxiety last throughout the day( over will I be able to sleep tonight?)....I feel like I am crazy..I feel none of my loved ones completely understand..so its hard talking to them about it. Does anyone else feel this way? Please let me know that I am not nuts!

i dont know who the first person is that they are "diagnosing" you with G.A.D. are they a LICENSED professional?

i am.

i would never have the gall to suggest a diagnosis.

here is what i will suggest to you. clearly you have STRESS in your life. that is causing you to have anxiety and more. you are living in beta brain wave state (most people these days do) this is fight flight freeze state. adrenaline and cortisol, epinephrine and nor-epinephrine are blasting through your body constantly. that is obvious by the 2nd sentence of your post.

so, i will ask you 3 simple questions. you address these, you will start sleeping as, likely, you have never before: ie restfully.

1. what are you eating and drinking?

2. what daily exercise are you getting?

3. what relaxation technique are you practicing twice daily for 20 minutes each session?

You are not crazy. You may have generalized anxiety disorder or OCD.

BOTH are treatable and are easily treatable! Make an appointment with your regular doctor as soon as you can. When you go in, simply repeat what you just told us. The doctor will be able to help you out very quickly.

You are OK. Just remember that. There are tens of millions of people that have suffered from this, and "suffer" is the key word. If you get proper treatment, the suffering is over!!!

Good luck!

You are not nuts, anxiety is a very common problem, and is ver much treatable. See your physician about it.

What kinds of things are you doing before going to bed, watching tv, caffeine, including the colas??? I know of someone who spent all their spare time in the bedroom watching tv and so when it came time to get to sleep they couldn't. Are you trying to go to bed too early?? I hope some of these suggestions help as sometimes it may be an easier fix than we think.
Remember, our minds can convince us that things are worse than they actually are, and I say this because my husband was the same way getting very frustrated because he had to get to work early next day, for him, he just had to learn to relax and let go of alot of anxiety and learn the world does not end if he gets a little less sleep. Also, consider going for a sleep study as you may have a condition that is treatable, it would be worth it.

You're probably experience general anxiety or obssessive compulsive disorder, which are both treatable. I myself have mild OCD (smalls things like the order of magnets on the fridge etc.) but when I do experience a major OCD impulse, I can't sleep. You're not crazy, but I would check with a doctor and get treated. I myself can't get treated because the major OCD "spells" don't happen very often, only about once a month or every couple of months, and don't last long. Usually just one night. =]]

Lean to relax, it may be due to stress or lack of melatonin. Ensure that your diet includes rice

This could be sign of OCD.
Or, do you use your computer a lot?
The computer light on the screen can confuse your brain.
Don't use your computer more than 30 minutes before you go to bed.

Good luck!
=))))
