Help. I need to talk to someone.?!

Question: Okay, I really feel I need a counsellor, or something, but my parents don't want to pay for one, and I have rent and a bunch of other bills to pay, so I have no money for one, and I can't find a decent one for free. I'm on the verge of a complete breakdown, and I don't know what to do. Is there any free online counselling? I just need to talk to someone... Thanks to all those who anwser.

First of all, if you have a crisis, get someone to take you to the emergency room.

If you think you are chemically depressed, try going to your regular doctor and asking for an antidpressant. Or, try St. John's Wort, which is an herbal antidepressant that you can get at the health food store. Better to get a prescription from a doctor. There are older antidepressants that aren't very expensive. Trazadone costs $4 a month.

Look for a support group. That can be a good way to find someone to talk to about your problems.

Do you go to school or have a job? Perhaps your school or employer can refer you to a low cost counselor? Do you have medical insurance? Check to see whether you insurance has recommended providers. Try a local church, perhaps a Catholic church, even if religion isn't your thing. See if they can help you find counselling. You can ask them if they can de-emphasize the religious aspects, if it makes you uncomfortable. If they have a calling to help you, then they will.

Try self-help books. Focusing on fixing your problem may help you get some ideas to improve your situation.

Focus a lot of attention on your health. Take a multi-vitamin and stress vitamins (antioxidants). Take extra calcium and vitamin D. It helps you relax. Excercise. Even a long malk through the mall and parking lot can help. Get enough sleep and stay on a regular schedule of sleep. Go to sleep and get up around the same time each day. Eat regular meals, and avoid too much snack food and sodas. Try to eliminate caffeine. It interferes with sleep and increases anxiety. You have to be off it for several day before you can sleep normally. Just paying attention to your help and your level of stress can help you make little adjustements throughout your day that can add up to a big impact.

Focus on staying calm and relaxed. Avoid contact with people who stress you out. Spend more time with supportive people who help you work through your problems and look on the bright side. If you feel anxious, then take active steps to relax. Try a hops/valerian blend occasionally to help stay calm to get through rough patches. Take a warm soothing bath. Light some candles. Listen to some relaxing music.

You mentioned rent and a bunch of other bills to pay. Is it money that is stressing you? If this is a source of stress, then deal with it head on. Look for ways to reduce your bills or increase your income, even drastic ones like moving to a cheaper place or trading your car or getting a new job. If the stress is doing this to you, then everything is on the table. Maybe your parents would be willing to sit down with you to help you do this.

Best of luck. I hope you start feeling better.

There are suicide hotlines that you can call. 1-800-suicide being the best.

I've never done it though, because I am afraid of talking on the phone.

I hope you figure something out. I feel your pain.

If religion is your thing (and even if it isn't) you can always go to the church and talk to one of the priests..it may not be what you're looking for but it is free if you want it.

Priests are taught to be consellors and what you say to them is usually in confidence too. Like it was stated it shouldn't matter wether you are religious or not you should talk to them because its free and they are usually trained in this. If you dont want them to talk to you about G*d just tell them and they will listen to you and might also help you out with a free clinic in your area or something to that effect. Best of luck to ya!

why don't you talk to people here? I think a counselor is just a regular person who listens to people's problem and use soothing words, but I may be wrong. I don't think they can fix problems for you, they prescribe medicine and try to make you happy. But I think sometimes, you have to fix it within yourself. But I guess the counselor might give you tips on how to not be stress and such, if you are.

Life is a day to day struggle for all of us. Its just that most of us just keep on going. You will find the love of your life and things will get better. You are a beautiful young woman so cheer up. There are thousands of people in your position that make the daily trudge through life. You will make it.
