Answers: is depression genitic because both my parents take mads for depression does that mean i could be depressed?

That is a million dollar question. The exact mechanism which triggers depressive illness is not completely understood, no is there just one factor that contributes to the diseases.

There seems to be a certain amount of inheritability of mood disorders such as depression. Whether that can be attributed to genetics or environment and learned behaviors, or how much of each plays a part, has yet to be fully explained.

So, with that knowledge, it is safe to say that you have an increased chance of suffering from depression. HOWEVER, it is in no way a certainty that you will suffer from it.

Remember, depression is highly treatable. You should NOT worry yourself about getting it. Knowledge of your parent's health history can better guard you against the risks you face. You know that you may, at some time, suffer from depression. Therefore, become educated about the illness, the symptoms, and what to do if you feel like you are beginning to suffer from it. Make sure your doctor is aware of your family history, and make sure you make her/him aware of the symptoms you may have. Please refer to the link I provide in my sources.

I wish you the best.

Depression is not completely genetic. It is part genetic part psychological. If you think you are depressed ask to see a doctor or a therapist.

Yes it might be...
But the fact that you know it can help you avoiding it!! You can prevent having depression by doing some sport or activities that doesn't allow you to have many spear time during the day and the fact that your body is tired at the end of the day also helps on that prevention

Well, maybe...

I get panic attack now and then and I think it came from one of my relitives! (I know I spelled it wrong)
