I think I might have developed agoraphobia. How do I get over it?!

Question: It's got my life at a standstill. I am so afraid to go outside. I don't even know why! I want to get my life in order again but I get so afraid when I think about going out. Then I get very tired... I'm hoping to get some advice from other agoraphobics on how to conquer this. I want to go to the doctor but I'm having a hard time explaining to my mother what's really wrong with me.

you need a psychotheripist it is very hard to over come its been 4 months for me now and i can just now go out in my front yard. here is a site that explains alot about it i hope it helps you like it has helped me. http://psychcentral.com/

Work with a therapist and figure out the events that lead up to the fear. There could be an isolated event or it may be complex which is where the therapist becomes very beneficial.

well i was at that a few years ago. It was bad then because all I did was play video games, get high and get drunk to fill the void in my life. Eventually it became so bad I could not even go to the dr. I was terrified of people seeing me, even getting my mail became a problem. I would be in my house for a months at a time and not even care.

I dont know what changed me, I think little steps, going out with my friend over night who had a over night job, that way I wouldnt be around many people. Eventually it was easier.

Then one day I got a job offer, I forced myself to go because I could not stand sitting at home and avoiding reality. It got easier going out. I am not as bad as I used to be, sometimes get like that still. What I do is take a walk in the grave yard since no one is there and its right next to my house.

The dr could offer you something for it. I was on something for about a month and I did not feel any better. I think when I hit rock bottom it woke me up. Good luck to you I know its a hard thing to over come.
