Best prescription medication for anxiety?!

Question: In response to the previous persons answer:
Do NOT go on anti-depressants. I almost went on them. I am depressed and I have anxiety issues but do NOT go on anti-depressents. They dont make you happier they just make you not depressed. It gives you no feelings. An answer from my question concerning this says: "it most definitely did not make me feel happy, it made me feel nothing at all, and that was truly a scary." and "They EFF with your head!" I was in the same position you are in but I'm still going without meds aiight. e-mail if you have questions

There are many types of antidepressants on the market today. And a lot will work on anxiety. But not every drug works for the same person. Paxil is probably one of the most prescribed drugs for it, but there are others as well including Effexor, ect. And if you have panic attacks as well you'll need something to help with those if they are bad. For panic attacks there is Xanax and Ativan but they are very addicting so only use a few times a week for the worse cases. The only way you will find out what works best for you is to try them, if one don't work, move on to the next. Good luck!

anti depressants arent bad. they calmed my anxiety down but what helped out the most was fixing the problem that was causing my anxiety the most

I take Avanza (mirtizipine.) It works for me. But every one is different so it could take a couple of tries to find the one best suited for you. There are well over forty antidepressants to choose from.
For quick calm down or severe panic attack I take 1/4 tablet of Xanax(kalma).
But it is a case of having a good doctor or Psychiatrist, that listens to you, understands the circumstances that have led to anxiety.
You also have your non medical strategies that you can learn to help you calm down and take control of some of the worry.

It depends on how severe it is.I was on efexor now fluvoxamine there are plenty out there but there is more to do with working on your anxiety aswell as medication
