Game addiction.?!

Question: ok, im an avid age of empire 3 and civilization 4 player, but its starting to mess up my life.

Since I have gotten these games in the past couple of months, im working out less, my grades are going down, and im doing less constructive hobbies (im also a photographer and artist)

It just seems that, especailly for civ 4, everything reminds me of the game, ESPECIALLY my history class, and I will just get these urges to play the game.

Then, once i do start gaming, time seems to just fly, I will start playing after school at 3, and next thing i know, its 9:30, and i havn't started my homework or anything...

any suggestions as to how to stop this addiction?

Dude, don't think of excuses to back yourself up to play games. Take a stand, and think maturely about what you're doing. Is this at ALL going to take effect in your future? Is it going to at ALL help you in the long run? What's more imporant, making your imaginary army stronger, or using that time to make your own body stronger. Taking that time to make a strategy in la la land, or taking that time to plan your life. Do the right thing!

I have a few friends that play World of Warcraft and it's been taking over their lives in much the same way.

All you can really do is try to cut back slowly. Re-prioritize your life, and if you want, make a list of most important to least important things. Schoolwork, family and your health should be at the top, and luxuries like the games should be lower down.

Good luck. It's a really hard thing to do, but if your will is strong, you can do it.

I understand you
i was on that boat in high school
When i started to see the symptoms i decided to prove myself that i can leave the games and concentrate on my grades. Since i make myself that little test i gotten more stronger fighting the addiction.

Right now i'm in college and I'm studyin Game Design
And i play a little now and then.

I love age of empires! So addictive! What you have to do is at the start of every week wright out a timetable. In it have how many hours you are going to workout, do homework, play your game etc. for and slot the hours into different days. Give yourself a maximum amount of hours you can play the game for in that week and stick to it. When its writtin on paper its easier to plan things. Another thing is to do your work as soon as you get home and leave the game as a reward for getting your work done.

Start by writing down a detailed list of things to do starting right after school and then stick with it. Stop playing the game cold turkey and never look back. Your education should be your top priority. Good luck.
