What can I do about my depression?!
Question: I've been really depressed since I dropped out of high school senior year, I've been having some big family problems with my dad being an alcoholic and both parents arguing all the time that it really affected me in school. I have also been stressing out about being unemployed. I've really been trying hard to study so I can get my GED but my problems are causing me to feel lazy and too depressed to even think. I also feel pain every now and then in my neck and back and I get alot of head aches. If any one and give me any tips on what I can do I'd really appreciate it because I spend most of my time alone which is causing me to loose most of my friends.

Mary, I feel for you. Have you spoken with a psychiatrist? Get some help now! It sounds as if you are still quite young, you have so much potential amazing things in front of you, based on the choices you make. Yes, once you get in a depression, it is hard to get motivated and you can develop physical pain.
While you are getting help, go for a walk outside for at least 30 minutes every day. Keep your head lifted up, and if you see another person, smile or at least nod in a friendly way. This may sound simplistic, but it has worked for me.
Do you have something uplifting to read? You may want to try Norman Vincent Peale's Power of Positive Thinking - its old, but its good! Read for at least 15 minutes each day - no matter what.
If you listen to music, be careful to pick songs that have a positive message.
Everyone of us has that little "inner dialogue" - the voice that tells us that we look good or we look bad or whatever. When you are depressed, it is important to find a way to change it to something that supports you, such as:
I am getting happier every day. (think of the best compliments you've been given & write them down - you can read these to help uplift yourself)
I also have been helped by the audio c.d.'s from effective learning systems, I included the link below. I especially have been helped by the c.d. Become Totally Positive Automatically.
I so want to see you beat this! Good luck!
