I was on an anti depressant for almost a year...?!

Question: I was taking it daily for almost a year for panic and depression. During that time I gained about 20 to 25 pounds so I decided to stop taking them. My dosage was 20 mgs for most of that time then I went to the controlled release which were 12mg. I actually took them about every other day the last couple of weeks that I took them then stopped completely. I have been feeling fine. I actually feel like I am able to feel my emotions now which may sound weird but do I need to be worried. Will I have some type of mental breakdown at some point?

I would never take them!!! They alter your perception on reality. Like you said "you can't feel". It's natural. What you need is discipline, and learn how to control your anxiety instead of trying to medicate it. Covering up a problem never solves it...

You might have a breakdown, but you can get back up.. I would recommend going to talk to a psychologist, or find someone you can confide in... tell your problems to them instead of trying to see a doctor about pills. You'll be much better in the long run. Deal with this. You can over come it.

not sure, hard to tell, i would discuss with a doctor, gl!

Many people who use antidepressants only need them for a short while. I don't know what exact medication you were taking, but it sounds like a pretty small dosage so it may have been just enough to help you in your time of need. I would say that being able to feel your emotions is a good thing. I don't know that you'll have a mental breakdown. I think those are less common than people think. I would recommend just watching yourself though, and if you notice yourself slipping back into depression or panicking more, go see your doctor again. If you've been in therapy I would recommend sticking with it for at least a few more weeks just to see how things are going.

There is no reason that you will have to have some kind of mental breakdown. What is of utmost importance is that you keep a positive attitude and live a healthy lifestyle. By healthy lifestyle, I mean, physically, mentally, and spiritually healthy. I think as long as you do that, you will probably be fine.

No, not necessarily. You may have gotten yourself through your depressive period and will be okay from here on. But, relapses are common. So keep track of your moods and the minute you feel yourself slipping, see the doctor about medications again. Maybe the next time......if there is a next time.....you could ask for another type of medication.
