Depression, anxiety, cant get relief?!

Question: ive been suffering from anxiety and depression for a while. I'm on sertralin 200mg daily and .25mg alprazolam 3 times daily (for the last 6 months) and theres no big improvement. I still suffer major anxiety every minute of the day, the only difference, its not painfully anxious like it was. I thought (maybe naively) that the meds would have a much greater effect but im still stook in a hole and my life is dictated by fear and anxiety. Has anyone had the same experience or know of any more effective ways of dealing with it?

yes i have been suffering with anxiety for over five yaers now and it has also dictated my life through fear. i have been prescribed several different medication which have had no real effect. I would however not give up, keep trying different medication untill you find the right one for you.

I too suffer from anxiety and depression but mostly during the winter. I usually am prescribed the old Xanax and Zoloft remedy but I really start to feel better when the seasons change. My mood seems to change, really once spring arrives. During the winter I have to keep myself busy and with friends as much as possible. When I am alone I think too much.

Sometimes meds take awhile to be effective and other times the Doc has to switch from one med to another to get the right drug for you. It's not easy. My friends husband has been on many many meds for depression and anxiety and his life has been like a yo-yo. Talk this over with your mental health councilor and good luck.

Hey, be careful, you can be the next cho-seung hui and along with the rest who have inserted chemicals that do god knows what to your brain and the rest.

i saw a councellor and found that really helped get to the bottom of my fears and anxiety so i could spot the triggers and stop the reaction to it. I had panic attacks and i did a lot of research- understanding the causes and the phisiological reasons for it made me see that i can control it because i know more about what causes it. I now don't suffer with panic attacks and my depression and anxiety is totally under contol- it is still there to a point but it doesn't take over my life anymore, thats the main thing. Email or message me if you like.

Make sure you're seeing a psychotherapist while taking the meds. The meds will only take the edge off. It's your efforts in therapy that can change your life! There is probably some underlying negative belief or self-belief that's causing your pain.

I was on Xanex for years. I ended up in rehab just to come off it, its sooooo addictive. I was on the blue tabs, I think it was .50 4 times a day and they really helped at the time but as I said sooo additctive. Im on Seroxat 50 now and I dont get any panic attacks or irrational anxiety, if u know what I mean. And my mood is better than ever. Why not see about going on an anti depressant yourself. They work better in the long run and xanex cant be used forever. I also found cognitive therapy very good for getting to the bottom of all the irrational fears and chamomile tea can help to relax u. Also get some Bach Rescue Remedy from a chemist, its good for stopping the original panic thoughts and symptoms and can be used anywhere. Hope that helps a little

i'm sorry to hear that...maybe you need to change your medication or adjust the dosage. Talk to your doctor.

You can also try doing things you enjoy or which make you happy to distract your mind...take up a new hobby, do yoga/meditation, meet up with friends who genuinely care for you etc..it may help.

Hope you feel better soon. Take care

ok, you need a medication change.

There is better meds than Zoloft.

I dont recommend taking alprazolam for long periods of time because it most of the time causes worse anxiety over time. It's an excellent drug for short term use but when its taken over a month it can become very habit forming.

I think you might need to get some counseling, talk out your problems and they will give you advice on how to deal with it.

i've been in similar situation like yours, except with different medications.
Medication helps but never really treat the problem.
Talking therapy in a good thing to try, and according to the reason of your anxiety, you need to change things in your life. That may be leaving/changing job, or going back to work. move house (that can be stressing, but the long term benefit could be worth it), not living with your partner (that is what did help for me), stop seeing some people (stop seeing my son to don't have to deal with his nasty mother helped me lots too), start a new activity... only YOU know the reasons of your anxiety, so only you know the things to do.
Try relaxation and meditation or/and yoga (there's course at almost every college), that help too (but like medication, not cure).
Medication should be short term solution, after a while the effect is wearing out.
