How can I give my life purpose? What sort of things can I do to enjoy life more?!

Question: I'm a really depressed person. I take medicine (started a new one about a week ago) and see a therapist, but I don't get any joy out of life whatsoever. My therapist tells me to do things that I will enjoy, but I don't enjoy ANYTHING. The thought of even the most fun things (like sex or partying with friends) seems lame, dumb and pointless. I would love to give my life purpose, but even when I'm doing things I once found enjoyable (like playing a computer game, or hanging out with my friends), I just don't care. I haven't played PS2 for 4 months, and I haven't hung out with my friends for more than a few minutes in an even longer time.

Does anyone have any advice? I really have no clue what to do about this. The only thing I do get enjoyment out of is sleeping, cause then each day goes by more quickly. And when I watch a funny movie on TV, or hear a good joke, I don't even laugh, cause I don't see the point.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

i think you need to widen your world.
i went through it. its like, im so damn bored of everything and everything is just pointless!
i read up mostly, and immersed myself in culture and knowledge. philosophy books. books of life. shakespeare. great movies, not the stupif comedy ones. by woody allen or tarentino, or just any good movies! i write as well, as an outlet for my emotions. i get what u mean by sleeping. it makes me feel more alive than being awake. another thing that may give your life purpose is to help others. i know its tacky, but its the ultimate hit in life. also, LOVE. its the ultimate bliss. so do try it all. =)

I honeslty know EEXXACCCTLLLYYY how you feel trust me, you know what keeps me motivated, this is only a temp feeling, I always find myself enjoying something sooner or later and I recognize what I enjoy, The thing that keeps me moving along the most is hope for the future I am 17 right now and I have been through so many depressed years, even suicide as much as I don't think its going to get better... I know it will its just a matter of keeping your head up high and not looking down. Try listening to music, save up money for something like me I want to save up for a car... get a job, try doing a new hobby like cooking, educate yourself, set a goal for yourself that you want to see the world, what it has to offer .. these are things that some what help me, I hope they can maybe help you and just know that you are not alone, and this feeling will not last forever I promise! as much as it seems like it trust me one day you will start to appercaite life.

A belief in God is not the end but the beginning. If we believe that God exists, then we ought to seek Him for He created us to have a relationship with Him.

There is a short story on the internet by the great Russian author, Leo Tolstoy. The title is "Where Love Is, There God Is Also". Tolstoy tells us how we are to live. It was a powerful influence on my life.
